This list contains spoilers for Andor season 1.

The spark of rebellion ignited on Ferrix in Andor's exciting season 1 finale, and it’s already got fans desperate for season 2. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series is being touted as one of the best Tv shows of the year for its stellar writing from Tony Gilroy, compelling performances by the cast, and stunning visuals. Excitingly, Andor season 2 is already in development as filming has commenced in London with hopes of arriving on Disney+ in 2024.

The wait might seem excruciating, but thankfully, 2023 is going to be a great year for Star Wars with new season of The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, and finally, Ahsoka. As for Andor, season 1 left fans with some burning questions, while expanding the grand scope of the franchise in riveting fashions, inspiring all sorts of theories for season 2 and beyond. Many fans shared their ideas and hopes on Reddit for what will happen next for Cassian, Mon Mothma, and Luthen, and how it all might lead into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Luthen Is A Jedi

One of the most pervasive theories throughout season 1 is that Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård, is a former Jedi. It’s gained more and more steam from episode four onward, and many fans are expecting season 2 to definitively prove them right or wrong. Redditor Daksout918 supports it, writing, “with everything he said in the monologue, plus the kyber crystal and the fact that they make a point of showing us his cane a couple different times, I have to think he’s a fallen Jedi.”

His Kuati Signet as he calls it, referencing the Rakata from the Legends lore, and the plethora of Andor easter eggs in his shop – including holocrons and a mask of a Jedi Temple guard – could be evidence for this theory having some validity. However, as some detractors note, Andor hasn’t been a show for such reveals and twists. While it’s a spy drama, full of intrigue, the characters are all who they appear to be, even Luthen.

Not A Jedi, But He Knew Some

Some viewers have modified the “Luthen is a Jedi” theory to be that Luthen is just someone connected to the Jedi order rather than a former member himself. ElandoUK states, “Luthen isn’t a Jedi, but his spouse was.” That type of development would add much more depth to his motivations and role in the canon. It’s a perspective that has only been shared in such a predominant way by Padmé Amidala.

Interestingly, this would suggest then that the kyber crystal was theirs, a way to stay connected to his lost love, who would have presumably died in Order 66. That would then fall in line with his initiation into the rebellion, citing, “…an equation I wrote fifteen years ago…” in his epic speech to Lonni. While it’s not the Jedi way to take partners, there is plenty of precedent during that era to support this idea.

The Merge Of B2-K2

Another popular theory is that B2EMO will end up becoming K-2SO from Rogue One in some way. The new droid quickly captured fans' hearts on Twitter, and its chokehold only grew as the season progressed. While other droids such as K-2, R2-D2, and Chopper all have feisty personalities, they’re nothing compared to the emotional B2. Given their matched importance in his story, fans are linking B2 and K-2 together.

DoctorSteve03 thinks, “if K-2 were revealed to hold Bee’s memories/consciousness it would make his sacrifice in Rogue One even more poignant.” It would certainly add a great deal of depth to their connection. As noted by naysayers, it would mean that B2’s personality changes drastically, so this doesn’t seem likely. Unfortunately, in that case, it might not bode well for B2 then as Cassian states in Rogue One that he’s lost everything in this fight.

L3-37, But The Other Way Around

The idea of transferring memory and databanks between droids brings to mind the revolutionary L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story, who ended up being integrated into the Millennium Falcon’s computer. As for K-2SO, pezboy74 thinks it could be the opposite. They wrote, “I personally like the theory I heard that K-2SO is Luthen’s ship’s AI.”

As season 2 is set to span the four years leading up to Rogue One, K-2SO is sure to finally appear, and this theory would cleverly link it with both Cassian and Luthen. It would be a fun way to retool an existing story element and also expand on the notion of droid sentience, something pertinent in Andor thanks to B2EMO’s radical personality.

Mon Mothma's Arc

While the show is titled Andor, Mon Mothma serves as the deuteragonist, and season 1 was an incredible showing for Genevieve O’Reilly in the role. Her arc brings in political elements, making the show far more than a spy thriller. By the end of season 1, she has presumably thrown her husband Perrin to the wolves, blaming their financial discrepancies on his gambling, and arranged the marriage of her teenage daughter, Leida. Season 2 will have to show her transition from Senator secretly funding the Rebellion to a major leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Redditor intrepidcaribou thinks, “they might do Mothma’s flight from Coruscant… Obviously, Perrin and Leida either die or get left behind. Showing Mon go from her cushy Coruscant life on the run would be interesting.” Given the scope of time for season 2, this seems incredibly likely, and specifically, it would result from her bold public denouncement of Emperor Palpatine for the Ghorman Massacre. That would tie into Rebels as the Ghost Crew helped save her.

Cassian, Mon, and Luthen All Together

Season 1 ends with Cassian declaring himself for the cause to Luthen. Therefore, much of season 2 will likely explore their developing relationship and working style up to Rogue One, during which Luthen is absent, or more likely, dead. This will also certainly encompass Cassian and Mon's meeting, which is enticing to think about – concerning how her and Luthen’s leadership styles will differ and thus affect Cassian’s actions and motivations within the Rebel Alliance.

Redditor rechelon theorizes, “Cassian either has to help Mon escape from Coruscant or he has to have a hand instigating the Ghorman Massacre at Luthen’s request (and then transfer allegiances to Mon from Luthen as he becomes less tolerable within the Alliance.” Interestingly, both possibilities hold merit. They could each be three-episode arcs, showing the truly variable nature of the Rebellion, and especially how his involvement in something horrible for the greater good would lead him down the path to where he is in Rogue One.

Syril & Dedra's Relationship

If fans were expecting a love story in Andor, logically they would’ve assumed Cassian would be involved. As such, the budding connection between Syril Karn and Dedra Meero is both unexpectedly fascinating and disturbing. While the performances by Kyle Soller and Denise Gough, respectively, are remarkable, the characters are entirely detestable. Syril is downright creepy, and Dedra is deeply menacing. However, the finale shows the spark of not just a rebellion, but something between them.

It could just be that Dedra takes advantage of Syril’s devotion without returning any favors. Redditor el-cad comments, “Dedra will be in a job but out of favor, Syril will be an outside informant/bloodhound doing dirty works off the books for her. Maybe Mosk would be in on it too.” Such a relationship would be interesting to compare with Luthen and Cassian’s if he becomes his personal agent in season 2, like Syril for Dedra.

Tragedy Incoming

While Maarva Andor’s funeral results in a riot against the Empire and a massacre of sorts, Cassian and several of his friends made it out alive – although not unscathed. Specifically, he helped B2EMO, Bix, Brasso, Wilmon, Pegla, and Jezzi escape from Ferrix, telling them he’d meet them on Gangi Moon. Unfortunately, Gungan_Jedi has a bad feeling about this, thinking “we might witness tragedy with Bix, Brasso, etc.”

The sad thing is that Cassian is in a very dark place by the start of Rogue One. He’s stated he’s lost everything because of the Empire. That’s nearly five years later from where Andor left off, and while the wound from losing Maarva could still be festering, that comment makes this theory sadly very plausible. It’s a tragedy that would shake Cassian to his core, and the loss of popular characters like B2, Bix, and Brasso would be devastating for the viewers, too.

Some Special Appearances

In Andor, all roads lead to Rogue One, whether explicitly or subtly. One way it’s done that so far has been the appearance of Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. In season 2, the Star Wars character many expect to see is Jyn Erso, played once again by Felicity Jones. DestroyTheHuman believes, “we will see Luthen discovering Jyn and her story, thus starting a conflict with Saw…giving Saw the ultimatum between saving Jyn or helping the rebels.” It would be great to see Saw in such a compelling predicament since he’s usually so stringent and steadfast.

This might require some tweaking as she is presumably abandoned by Saw in 5 ABY when season 1 is occurring, but it could come into play still. Whatever the case, season 2 will certainly contain some reference to Jyn Erso and/or her father, Galen, at least as it speeds toward Rogue One.

Back To Kenari

One of the biggest Andor questions remaining from season 1 is still about Cassian’s mysterious backstory on his home planet of Kenari, and especially the fate of his sister. His search for her was his most important story element in the first three episodes, but it was relegated by the urgency and stakes of subsequent arcs. Nevertheless, it did lead to some wild theories from fans that characters like Bix, Dedra, or Cinta could be his sister – none of which have any merit.

Interestingly, Maarva tells Cassian to forget about her and Kenari, but it sounded like she knows a secret he doesn’t. As such, many like Matuatay think season 2 will delve more deeply into this part of his life. They wrote, “it will get picked back up in S2, and she will find him.” That last point is quite intriguing and could then play into other developing theories that she is a Rebel already. Season 2 has a lot on its plate already, but a definitive answer as to what happened on Kenari and Cassian’s sister needs to be addressed.
