Bleach is finally back to grace TV screens after almost a decade with no new episodes. The new series is titled Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, and fans will be thrilled to see what’s in store for Ichigo Kurosaki and the rest of Soul Society. The sequel to the original series chronicles the resurgence of a hidden Quincy empire that seeks vengeance against Soul Reapers.
Aside from Ichigo, beloved characters such as Rukia Kuchiki, Orihime Inoue, and Uryu Ishida are back to help the Shinigami thwart a new and powerful group of enemies. Bleach has so many interesting and distinct characters whose personalities are reminiscent of a particular zodiac sign.
12 Aries: Renji Abarai
Renji Abarai is probably one of the most passionate and determined Shinigami in Soul Society. Growing up as an orphan in the Soul Society streets, Renji worked hard and proved that he has what it takes to be lieutenant and surpass his terrifyingly powerful captain Byakuya Kuchiki.
Renji’s persevering and defiant nature are all hallmark traits of an Aries person. Renji is relentlessly determined to prove to everyone that he has the skills and talent, and he’s not afraid to aggressively show it off. However, Aries folks can come off as cocky and very temperamental, which Renji is guilty of, especially whenever he’s around Ichigo, who he got off on the wrong foot with.
11 Taurus: Sado Yasutora
Also known as Chad, Sado Yasutora is a Fullbringer, which means that he’s a spiritually-aware human who can manipulate souls and turn them into powerful abilities. Despite being bullied in school by his mean classmates, Chad remains calm and quiet, even though he can easily overpower them due to his superhuman strength and durability.
Chad is a Taurus person through and through. He’s hardworking, loyal, dependable, and down-to-earth, all of which are traits that Taureans are most known for. While they are known for their solid work ethic and industrious personality, Taurus people are also not afraid to indulge themselves, which is seen in Chad’s obsession with the TV show Carnivore Kingdom.
10 Gemini: Aizen Sosuke
One of the most iconic villains in all of anime, former Shinigami captain Aizen Sosuke is a lying, manipulative, and evil person who has created a nurturing and caring facade. That’s why many fans of the show were aptly surprised when it was revealed that he created the Arrancars and had the ultimate goal of becoming the Soul King.
While the common notion that Geminis are two-faced is an unfair simplification, they can be extremely manipulative and often go to extreme lengths to achieve their goals. This is very much evident during Aizen’s reign of terror in Hueco Mundo, where he went as far as to trick the Shinigami into attacking Momo Hinamori, who was his devoted and caring lieutenant.
9 Cancer: Ukitake Jushiro
Arguably, one of the most loved captains in Bleach is Jushiro Ukitake due to his respectful personality. He is known to treat those who are weaker than him with the utmost respect, which makes him an approachable captain. He’s also very protective of his subordinates and upholds a very honorable moral code.
For his encouraging and kind personality, Ukitake is without a doubt a Cancer. The fourth sign of the zodiac is also known to be extremely perceptive and highly intuitive, making them the perfect person to ask for an honest opinion. Other Shinigamis don’t shy away from asking Ukitake, as his Cancer traits allow him to give a tactful, nurturing, and compassionate answer.
8 Leo: Ichigo Kurosaki
Undisputedly the star of the show, Ichigo was at first reluctant to carry out the duties of a Soul Reaper. However, his innate talent allowed him to quickly rise above the ranks and gain notoriety. He also wasn’t afraid to show off his Soul Reaper skills in order to save Rukia from being executed.
Leos like Ichigo are natural born leaders and are caring, loyal, and generous. As one of the three fire signs in the zodiac, Leos are also hot-headed and can be aggressive. While Leos can be compassionate and empathetic, they’re the last person people would want ot piss off, as seen with Ichigo’s intense desire to exact revenge on the ones who hurt the people he cares about the most.
7 Virgo: Byakuya Kuchiki
One of the most notable captains in the series is Byakuya Kuchiki. Aside from his incredibly terrifying Zanpakuto Senbonzakura, which takes the form of cherry blossom petals, Byakuya is cunning, skillful, and smart, which has contributed to his arrogant and uptight behavior.
Byakuya is a textbook Virgo, due in large to his respect and strict belief in law, order, and rules. He’s not one to compromise and is more than willing to uphold the law, even if that means executing his own family. Virgos like Byakuya are also emotionally detached and will only show their vulnerability to the people they trust the most.
6 Libra: Urahara Kisuke
The reason why Urahara Kisuke is well-respected in Soul Society despite being a tad lazy and very relaxed is due to his irresistible charm. However, his personality can also quickly shift as he is a master strategist who has his own agenda.
Everything that Urahara does is for his own good. Being a Libra, Urahara is charming and eccentric, which usually throws his opponents off. But despite being a skilled combatant, Urahara also prefers to manipulate other people to do his bidding, which is a common negative trait of Libras. Urahara’s desire to surround himself with objects from the Shinigami world through his store is also a hallmark characteristic of Libras, as they’re known to have good tastes and are masterful curators.
5 Scorpio: Uryu Ishida
As the last of his kind, Uryu Ishida is astoundingly proud of the work he does and makes it a point to make his presence known. The Quincy always clashes with the other Soul Reapers, as he thinks that his plans are superior compared to his rival race.
Uryu is a Scorpio and it shows in his behavior and personality. His moral ethic says that Soul Reapers are his enemies, so the Scorpio in him didn’t hesitate to make Ichigo his enemy. On a positive note, Scorpios are also tough, determined, and ambitious, which Uryu has shown throughout the series. However, due to his scheming and secretive nature, Uryu’s Scorpio traits might get the best of him later in the series.
4 Sagittarius: Toshiro Hitsugaya
There’s no doubt that the Soul Reaper Toshiro Hitsugaya is a genius. His immense skill and power allowed him to quickly climb up the ranks and become the youngest captain in Soul Society. In addition, he also has an uptight personality and he dislikes anything that he considers immature.
HIs committed and driven personality exemplifies Sagittarius excellence. He’s not afraid to be honest and stays focused on himself, which is another positive trait that Sagittarians are most known for. He’s on track to become one of the strongest Shinigami, which just shows that Sagittarius folks can easily achieve their goals, although they do have to overcome being reckless and emotionally distant.
3 Capricorn: Rukia Kuchiki
What’s notable about Rukia Kuchiki is that she took the responsibility of being Ichigo’s guide to the world of Shinigamis, Arrancars, and Hollows after awakening his Shinigami powers. She’s headstrong and incredibly hardworking as she’s able to uplift herself out of the street urchin life, join the Spiritual Arts Academy, and become a formidable lieutenant.
Rukia’s strong sense of duty and honor are positive Capricorn traits. She’s also intelligent and not afraid to compromise in order to achieve her goals and bring forth the greater good. While the Capricorn in her forces her to be restrained and reserved, she’s not afraid to show off her incredible Kido skills, making her a popular character among Bleach fans.
2 Aquarius: Yoruichi Shihoin
A former captain in Soul Society, Yoruichi Shihoin chose to live in the Human World and stand beside her friend Urahara after he was about to be punished for the wrongdoings of Aizen. Despite being born into a noble family, Yoruichi is not afraid to strip herself of her titles to stand for what she believes in.
Yoruichi’s innovative intelligence and defiance are proof that she’s an Aquarius person. She’s not afraid of challenges as she knows that she can survive as she thinks differently from the rest. Aquarius folks are also a little eccentric, which manifests in Yoruichi through her desire to stay for extended periods of time in her cat form.
1 Pisces: Orihime Inoue
A key member of Ichigo’s group is Orihime Inoue. After Ichigo gained his Shinigami powers, Orihime also obtained her own powers which she calls Shun Shun Rikka. Her powers were given by the Hogyuku after she expressed her frustrations of being powerless and unable to help her friends.
Her compassionate and empathic personality are all trademark characteristics of Pisces people. As a Pisces, Orihime is also extremely patient and kind to the people she loves, which can be seen in her tolerance to being a background personality in Ichigo’s life for so long. Pisces individuals also have a tendency to be deeply emotional, so Orihime isn’t afraid to express her feelings, whether it’s happy or sad.
