One of the most surprising MCU moments came when Jennifer Walters, aka, She-Hulk was romantically paired with Matt Murdock, aka, Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. The development was an unexpected one because the two never get to date in the comics. Nonetheless, they were very compatible, thanks to them being both lawyers and superheroes.

In the comics, Daredevil has had numerous love interests, some superheroes like him and others, ordinary citizens. But which were his best-ever relationships? As is the case with the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante and She-Hulk, the relationships can be best judged through compatibility.

Mary Walker (Typhoid Mary)

In Daredevil #254, one of Matt Murdock’s greatest enemies, Kingpin, hires Mary to seduce him. She does this successfully, making her not only fall in love with him but also cheat on Karen.

As a miscreant, Mary has little in common with Matt. She prefers to destroy Hell’s Kitchen whereas Matt dedicates his life to protecting it. She is also a ruthless killer who is often a henchwoman whereas Matt is a lifesaver who normally prefers not to take orders from anyone. Furthermore, since her relationship with Matt is built on deception, she ranks the lowest among his love interests. Luckily, he manages to free himself from her shackles and come back to his senses.

Felicia Hardy (Black Cat)

One of Peter Parker’s love interests, Felicia Hardy, happens to be having problems with him in Daredevil (Vol 3) #10, so she seduces Matt in order to make him jealous. And Matt easily falls for her charms.

Since the motives aren't genuine, the relationship appears doomed from the beginning. Felicia still has feelings for Peter Parker and in as much as she gets to have tons of fun with Matt, readers know it’s only a matter of time before she gets back with him. And it happens. As for Matt, he was never going to date his friend’s former lover for long, especially after realizing how much it hurts Peter.

Elektra

Elektra and Matt first meet in Daredevil #168 when they are both students at Columbia University. The two then date years later but keep on breaking up because of differences in principles.

Like many other popular superheroes, Matt has a “No-Kill” rule whereas Elektra’s reputation is built on her kill count. For this reason, the possibility of camaraderie between the two remains minimal. But despite Elektra’s occasional slips to the dark side, she and Matt deeply care about Hell’s Kitchen and do anything in their power to protect it. Moreover, their on-and-off cycle proves they truly do care about each other.

Dakota North

Initially, Matt and Dakota are only partners in crime-solving but in Daredevil (Vol 2) #115, one thing leads to another, and they sleep together. However, they are forced to end the affair soon because Matt is technically married.

Thanks to their shared interest in cleaning up Hell’s Kitchen, Matt and Dakota would have made a perfect couple in the long term. However, a married person and a non-married one cannot be compatible unless a divorce is on the horizon. Unfortunately, Matt isn’t willing to get a divorce, so the two are forced to end their affair.

Nyla Skin

Nyla meets Matt in Daredevil #286 when he's suffering from amnesia and going by the name, Jack. She helps him set up a new career as a boxer but her relationship with him ends when he remembers he is Daredevil.

Given their conflicting views towards crime, it was always going to be a matter of time before Nyla and Matt broke up. To her, stealing cheap items for a living was okay but to him, it wasn’t. It’s for this reason that he stops doing burglaries with her and starts fighting people in the ring for a living.

Glorianna O’Breen

The photojournalist first meets Matt in Daredevil #205 when he fights and defeats an IRA member. She is depicted as a damsel in distress who Matt has to rescue a couple of times before eventually falling in love with her.

Matt and Glorianna are perfect for each other because he loves saving people, and she happens to always be in need of saving. She is a big fan of his vigilante work too hence he never finds himself in the dilemma many superheroes do: whether to quit risking their lives, so they can settle down with their families. Sadly, ends up going back to Karen as he has always done and Glorianna becomes Foggy’s new girlfriend.

Maya Lopez (Echo)

In Daredevil (Vol 2) #9, Kingpin sends one of Hawkeye’s comic book enemies, Maya, to kill Daredevil, but she falls for him after learning that he is Matt Murdock. The two thus begin a relationship.

The relationship is good for Matt becomes it comes at a time when he is overcome with grief after Karen’s death. He thus uses his newfound love to forget a lost one. It’s also good for Maya because it helps her see Kingpin for who he really is. Most importantly, both Matt and Maya are living with a disability (Maya is deaf), hence they are able to relate to each other much better.

Natasha Romanov (Black Widow)

Matt also falls for one of the most skilled Avengers, Natasha Romanov. The two start dating and in Daredevil (Vol 2) #87, he even relocates to San Francisco with her.

Relationships are about compromise and the fact that Matt is willing to leave Hell’s Kitchen behind, so he can be with Natasha proves how deeply he cares about her. The two tend to be on the same page about dealing with criminals too. But what ultimately prevents them from being the perfect pair is the fact that Matt loves someone else more. It’s a fact that Natasha acknowledges, allowing him to be Karen and even helping her clear her name from a homicide that Mr. Fear had framed her for.

Kirsten McDuffie

Kirsten first appears in Daredevil (Vol. 3) #1 as a District Attorney who constantly teases Matt, trying to get him to admit that he is Daredevil. Soon, the two start dating.

Joy is a major ingredient of a successful relationship, something Kirsten and Matt share a lot. In most of their scenes, the two are always cracking jokes. Moreover, they are professionally compatible, so much so that they even go on to start a law firm in San Francisco together. There is never a dark moment in their relationship either, and it only ends when the Purple Children make everyone forget that Matt is Daredevil.

Karen Page

The seeds of love germinate when Foggy hires Karen as a secretary in Daredevil #1. The two then go on to date for a long time before getting engaged.

Karen has always been to Matt what Lois Lane is to Clark Kent. As such, she appears more frequently in Daredevil media. She knows about his identity and has always kept it a secret. She also isn’t okay with the dangerous life he lives, but she understands that it is for the greater good. The two tend to be very forgiving towards each other too, Even when Karen once sold his identity for drugs, he still forgave her.
