Disney is arguably the most successful movie studio of all time, with everything from original animated Disney movies to IP's it aquired like the MCU and Star Wars dominating worldwide box offices — here's every upcoming Disney movie releasing until 2025. Disney has seen considerable success with live-action remakes like Cruella and Maleficent, as well as animated properties like Frozen II, and they're continuing to push the envelope into the 2020s with Turning Red and more. 2021 saw Disney return to movie theaters full-force with multiple Marvel theatrical exclusives, culminating in the mega-hit Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the animated Encanto. The studio also released an unusual amount of adult-oriented titles, including Oscar contenders West Side Story and Nightmare Alley, which were largely a holdover from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

The studio has also continued releasing new movies directly to Disney+, including Pixar features such as Luca. What the future holds now that Disney is steadily releasing several of the films from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox — including surprise Disney+ mega-hit Prey — remains to be seen. Suffice it to say, movies released by Disney no longer adhere to such a close definition as they once did, given all the studios that operate under the entertainment giant's purview. But the upcoming release slate certainly includes a number of films that fit into that category, as well as a range that challenges it directly. Here's a rundown of every upcoming Disney movie releasing until 2025.

The Little Mermaid - May 26, 2023

The live-action The Little Mermaid finally has a release date after finally wrapping production in July 2021 and will likely make a splash when it hits theaters on May 26, 2023. The plot will follow this upcoming Disney movie will follow the formula by sticking to the original animated The Little Mermaid for the most part, making various tweaks and modernizations along the way. Directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by Jane Goldman and David Magee, The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy. Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in the remake, and her singing voice in the trailer already proves she's perfect for the role, with McCarthy playing the banished villain Ursula.

Elemental - June 16, 2023

The next upcoming Pixar movie is the original movie Elemental, which is pinned for a June 16 2023 release. Elemental already has all the hallmarks of a classic Pixar heartwarmer despite no extended trailers being available yet. The movie follows a modern city full of Elementals – beings made entirely of fire, water, earth, or air, respectively – as they learn to co-exist in their quartered settlement. A water elemental played by Mamoudou Athie and a fire elemental voiced by Leah Lews will be the main focus though, and Elemental has The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn at the helm.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - June 30, 2023

It was long believed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would happen at some point after Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, and that belief came true when the studio announced in 2016 plans to produce another Indiana Jones movie. Unfortunately, it's been delayed multiple times since then — first from 2019 to 2020, and then again to 2021. The film seemed to keep a firm release spot in 2022, but it's since been delayed until 2023. The upcoming Disney movie Indiana Jones 5 sees James Mangold writing and directing and Harrison Ford returning to the title role, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as his goddaughter Helena.

The Haunted Mansion - August 11, 2023

Despite the 2003 Eddie Murphy movie adaptation of this Disneyland ride being considered a flop, Disney is once again turning the beloved Haunted Mansion into a film. This new Disney movie is releasing in March 2023, and the revamped Haunted Mansion movie has a star-studded cast including horror heavyweights Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Alien Resurrection), Jared Leto (Morbius, American Psycho), and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, The Fog). Rosario Dawson, Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito are all also starring. Much like its 2003 predecessor, The Haunted Mansion is a horror comedy rather than Amityville or Paranormal Activity level haunted house fright-fest. The plot has a simple premise, with Gabbie (Dawson) and her 9-year-old daughter moving into the titular haunted mansion after buying it at a dirt-cheap price.

Wish - November 22, 2023

Wishing upon a star has been a mainstay of Disney meta-lore since Pinocchio, and in 2023 the House of Mouse is finally giving stars and wishes their own animated movie. One of the lesser-publicized upcoming Disney movies, Wish will see Princess Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose) meet the literal star upon which so many Disney princesses wish, and she must rope in its help to save her home, the fantasy Kingdom of Rosas. The art style combines watercolor, hand-drawn classic Disney style, and CGI, and it will likely be one of the most intriguing animated Disney movies to date.

Peter Pan And Wendy - 2023

Among the slate of upcoming Disney movies is a live-action Peter Pan reboot, titled Peter Pan and Wendy, reportedly releasing sometime in 2023. Peter Pan and Wendy doesn't have a fixed release date within that window, though. Production actually started on the live-action Peter Pan back in 2016, and David Lowery is directing. Alexander Molony has been cast as Peter Pan, with Ever Aderson as Wendy Darling and Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell. Villainous pirate Captain Hook will be played by none other than Jude Law. It will be interesting to see how Peter Pan And Wendy plays out. While the 1994 live-action Peter Pan adaptation/sequel Hook has been universally praised, the animated 1953 Peter Pan remains one of the most controversial Disney movies to date.

ELIO - March 1, 2024

The next upcoming Pixar movie after Elemental is 2024's ELIO, which is slated to release in Spring 2024. The titular Elio will be voiced by Yonas Kibreab, and America Ferrera will play his mother, Olga. Adrian Molina, who previously worked with Pixar on Coco and The Good Dinosaur, is directing. The premise is that Elio finds himself in space among aliens and cosmic beings — all of whom find his human form, which is alien to them, fascinating. They also believe the young boy is Earth's official ambassador, which promises many comedic misunderstandings as well as trademark Pixar emotional moments.

Snow White - March 22, 2024

Continuing the trend among upcoming Disney movies of reworking classic stories, another live-action remake coming from Disney is 2024's Snow White. Rachel Zegler is starring as Snow White, with Gal Gadot portraying the wicked magic Queen. The plot will presumably follow the animated classic more or less and include revamped versions of the same musical numbers. Marc Webb is directing, and Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson penned the live-action Snow White script.

Inside Out 2 - June 14, 2024

The final confirmed new Pixar movie is also the most anticipated, perhaps even among the wider list of upcoming Disney movies. After years of being a standalone movie, Inside Out is finally getting a sequel in the form of Inside Out 2, which was announced at D23 Expo. Already some details of this upcoming Pixar movie have come through about the plot, including that it will introduce new emotions. Amy Poehler will return as Joy, with Phyllis Smith becoming Sadness once again. Lewis Black is also back as Anger. Sadly, however, Mindy Kaling (Disgust) and Bill Hader (Fear) will not return for Inside Out 2. 2015's Inside Out was a high point for Pixar, so after the disappointing returns of Lightyear it's understandable they'd want to return to what's seen as a safe bet. That being said, Pixar has spent the last few years balancing original content with sequels, so the success of Inside Out 2 will likely inform where Disney and Pixar keep their focus in years to come (as Lightyear was itself a spin-off of Toy Story, Pixar's flagship franchise).

Mufasa: The Lion King - July 5, 2024

Releasing in 2024 among the upcoming Disney movies is Disney's Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King. The only known plot detail so far is that Mufasa is going to be an orphan and that Timon and Pumbaa will narrate. Barry Jenkins is directing Disney's Mufasa prequel, and it will no doubt show his life story, his history with Scar, and how he became king of the Pride Lands. Mufasa: The Lion King will have a theatrical release rather than stream directly to Disney+.

Disney's Upcoming Marvel Movies

Disney spent decades acquiring every franchise and studio they could, and the most successful venture for them has arguably been the MCU. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, based on Marvel Comics characters, has dominated cinema since 2008's Iron Man. Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU are fully planned, so there's a slew of upcoming Marvel content coming from Disney between 2023 and 2026, supported by multiple big-budget Disney+ shows like Secret Invasion and Ironheart.

  • Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania - February 17, 2022
  • Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 - May 5, 2023
  • The Marvels - June 28, 2023
  • Blade - November 3, 2022
  • Captain America: New World Order - May 3, 2024
  • Thunderbolts - July 26, 2024
  • Fantastic Four - November 8, 2024
  • Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - May 2, 2025
  • Avengers: Secret Wars - November 7, 2025

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania kicks off the MCU in 2023 with a 02/17/23 release date, followed shortly by Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5, 2023 (cheekily the day after Star Wars day on May 4th). The Marvels comes next on June 28, 2023, which is a sequel to Captain Marvel, Wandavision, and Ms. Marvel simultaneously. The long-awaited Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali originally took the MCU's final 2023 movie slot, releasing on 11/03/23, but this has been pushed back to September 6, 2024.

As for 2024, Captain America: New World Order kicks things off for the MCU on May 3, 2024. It will be Sam Wilson's first solo movie after acquiring Steve Roger's shield and title in Falcon And The Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier isn't getting the cold shoulder though, as Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will also be back on the big screen in the new team-up movie Thunderbolts, which comes out a few months after Captain America 4 with a July 26, 2024, release. After this comes Blade, which will also be the MCU's final Phase 5 movie.

Phase 6 begins the same year though, with the highly anticipated MCU Deadpool 3 finally hitting theaters on November 8, 2024. 2025 is perhaps the most important upcoming year on the MCU's calendar though, as it will have both the Fantastic 4 on February 25, and the first of two new Avengers movies. The Multiverse Saga (Phases 4, 5, and 6) culminates in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025, followed by the Endgame to its Infinity War, Avengers: Secret Wars, on May 1, 2026. Where the MCU is heading afterward is a mystery, though an X-Men movie can't be too far away.

Disney's Upcoming Star Wars Movies

The theatrical future of Star Wars is less certain, with the franchise taking a break from cinemas to focus on Star Wars Disney+ series. Nevertheless, Disney has announced theatrical dates for future Star Wars movies, with the idea that Star Wars will alternate with Avatar in the December release slot. A Rogue Squadron movie directed by Patty Jenkins was slated to be the first of these biannual releases, before it was removed from the release schedule. The slot has been left open, and it's expected that Taika Waititi's untitled Star Wars project will fill it instead. The following, also currently unknown, Star Wars movie will release December 19, 2025, with the final confirmed date on December 17, 2027.

A number of creators have been announced as working on upcoming Star Wars movies, including Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, and the aforementioned Taika Waititi, but it's currently unclear which of these projects will end up in cinemas. Disney has far from abandoned the Star Wars IP though. Quite the reverse, in fact. Star Wars titles have been used extensively as flagship offerings on Disney+, especially shows like The Mandalorian. Whatever Star Wars movie comes out next, it'll have much more narrative material to play with thanks to the last few years of Star Wars Disney+ content.

Disney's Upcoming 20th Century Fox/Studios Movies

Disney acquired rival studio 20th Century Fox in 2019, renaming it to 20th Century Studios. There are still projects from 20th Century Studios acquired during the Fox purchase that haven't yet made their way to theaters, although several will be released directly to Hulu. There are also many rumored projects in the works based on known franchises Disney acquired from Fox, such as reboots/continuations of Alien, Planet of the Apes, Flash Gordon, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. However, there's not much concrete news on these yet.

The status of 20th Century Pictures properties as "Disney movies" is debatable. Some, like Avatar, The Bob's Burgers Movie, and 2022's Prey, have been embraced by Disney with open arms. Others, like the upcoming Hellraiser reboot and The Boston Strangler, starring Keira Knightley, are less associated with the family-friendly House of Mouse. It can't be overstated just how much of contemporary cinema Disney is indirectly involved in, and they're often only competing with themselves for audience share. Notable highly anticipated sequels and followups including Sister Act 3, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, and Kingsman: The Blue Blood, the follow-up to 2021 prequel The King's Man have all been announced, but have no release dates scheduled. While these aren't explicitly Disney movies, they are still technically Disney properties.
