With Jodie Whittaker's last episode as the Doctor on the way, fans are getting ready to say goodbye to the 13th Doctor. Though Doctor Who has made fans comfortable with changes in the cast, it is going to be the start of a new era entirely, and fans aren't sure what to expect.

With new companions, a new Doctor, and a new showrunner on the way, there are almost certainly going to be new fan-favorite characters to latch onto. Yet, while that's certainly something to look forward to, many past fan-favorite characters have actually turned out to be pretty annoying after a rewatch.

Jenny

The reveal that the Doctor actually had a cloned daughter was a major one, and many fans were incredibly excited to see that she survived her introduction by regenerating. Yet many fans find the Tenth Doctor's mini-me to be incredibly irritating after rewatching once or twice.

"I can't think of a more boring and useless character that so many people seem desperate to want to return," says a now-deleted Reddit user. While many fans want Jenny to head a Doctor Who spin-off, viewers who can't stand an overexcitable character like Jenny hate the idea.

Susan Foreman

The Doctor's first companion, Susan Foreman, also happened to be his granddaughter. Often viewed as an audience surrogate, Susan may have been adventurous, but she often got into trouble on every journey. That behavior rubbed some fans the wrong way.

"Susan may be the most annoying TV character I've ever seen ... I'm loving everyone else, but she is just ... loud," says Reddit user M0RD3CA1. Considering that Susan loved the idea of settling down, being a little annoying on her journey made sense, especially since she would prefer to stop their journeys entirely.

Martha Jones

One of the most overlooked Doctor Who companions, Martha Jones was a doctor turned tagalong, who longed after the doctor, despite his clear love for Rose Tyler. While she was clearly a brilliant companion, who helped in every dangerous medical scenario they came across, some fans found her painful upon a rewatch.

"Nothing will be more annoying than the non-stop whining and pining for the Doctor of Martha," says Redditor Triette. "The woman is a Doctor and acts like a naive child, as if the writers forgot that she's a trained medical professional." After spending so much time with Rose and the Doctor, seeing their relationship blossom over the course of two seasons, having another companion desire him immediately after felt too repetitive for many fans.

Jackie Tyler

The mother of Rose, and one who wasn't entirely on board with her daughter traveling through time and space, Jackie Tyler struggled to get along with the Doctor at first. "I'm currently in the process of watching back Eccleston's run as the Doctor, and for reasons I cannot pin down I just find her irritating," says a now-deleted Reddit user.

Considering that the Doctor took her daughter away for a full year, Jackie was right to be occasionally annoying to the Doctor. After all, his miscalculation took away a year of her life with her daughter. Still, she eventually became more tolerable, as she embraced the Doctor for sending Rose back to her.

The Master

While the Master can be summed up as the Doctor's best villain, recent iterations of the character has annoyed fans whenever they rewatch it. "He used to be a powerful and conniving being in the old series, but he became a frat boy with superpowers in the revised series," says Reddit user JosephFurguson.

Given how different the Master is in the modern series, it is understandable that Classic fans would despise the changes made to the character. Less maniacal and careful and more impulsive and wild, he is a very different character, which can ring somewhat hollow.

Adric

While Adric was always somewhat annoying, he still had his fair share of fans. After all, many fans grew up loving Adric, especially given that he was viewed for years as the companion that the Doctor failed. "As a kid who was really good at maths, I really liked Adric, even identified with him...but since some point in my teens," says one Reddit user. "I just find him so... annoying."

Given how egotistical Adric can be, sometimes the annoying aspects of his personality stand above any of the tragic elements. Having lost his life in one of Doctor Who's most unnecessary sacrifices, even his death rings somewhat hollow today, which makes him even more annoying.

The Tenth Doctor

While often seen as the best Doctor, David Tennant can occasionally play an incredibly dark and somewhat annoying character. After all, though many fans are nostalgic for his era, he was far from a good man. "Honestly the way 10 treated the people around him was awful," says Reddit user Cute-Honeydew1164.

Often viewing himself as the only man allowed to judge others, he could become incredibly self-righteous. After all, he completely ruined the career of a Prime Minister after she overruled him, despite the fact that the Doctor really had no authority, and she had never even met him. Though it was a big moment for him, it also proved he was incredibly annoying at times.

The Eleventh Doctor

One of the most childish takes on the Doctor was also one of the most brutal, and those traits combined could make him incredibly annoying. "I dunno how 11's multiple senseless genocides didn't shock me the first time around. Dude was a monster," says Reddit user DomeAcolyte42.

Having caused the death of the Silence, an entire Dalek empire, and the Nemesis, Eleven really proved that he had the potential to be obscenely cruel. To make matters even worse, he was also just annoying in general. The Eleventh Doctor often made speeches about how great he is, which worked occasionally but can get grating after the first monologue.

River Song

The Doctor's time-traveling half-Time Lord wife, River Song appeared across multiple eras. While she was engaging at first, rewatching fans found her grating. "She turned into a flirty quip machine in a lot of episodes, and it was kinda sad?" says Reddit user macacheesy, before lamenting that, "Little me was in LOVE with her and would defend the writing with my life."

Her convoluted origins certainly didn't help, as it made a confusing show even more confusing. Had she only appeared once or twice, she could have been much more tolerable. Yet, after multiple appearances across multiple seasons, she was unbearable.

Rose Tyler

The love of the Tenth Doctor's life, Rose Tyler was the first companion of the modern era of Doctor Who. Yet, though she's a fan favorite, fans have started turning on the character. "When I first watched DW, I liked Rose. When I re-watched it again, I hated her. I thought she was whiny, childish, stupid, and just annoying," says a now-deleted Reddit user.

Though Rose eventually left the show, it certainly didn't help that she dominated the Doctor's entire time with Martha. After all, she was the shadow hanging over the Tenth Doctor's entire era. Since she was often possessive of the Doctor and somewhat immature, it just isn't easy to like Rose now.
