Netflix’s latest miniseries From Scratch is drawing in a huge audience by portraying the love story of an American art student and an Italian chef. Skipping the cheesy happily-ever-after unrealistic scenarios of usual drama romance, the series portrays a raw depiction of love, long-distance relationships, marriage, and the real story behind “for better or for worse” and “through sickness and health.”

Throughout the episodes, Amy and Lino navigate through the good, the bad, and the ugly, all while hanging on to what matters most: love. And within a well-written script and well-thought-out plot, there are sprinkled quotes of adventure, relationships, and hope, many of them memorable.

"Love Rules Without Rules.”

Lino To Amy In Season 1, Episode 1

Amy, played by Zoe Saldana in one of her best non-MCU roles, started out as an art student spending a few weeks in Florence, and with art came meeting two handsome Italians. While for a little while, she chose the rich and handsome Giancarlo, she ultimately fell for Lino.

While Amy was with Giancarlo but obviously hung up on Lino, he made her feel better with the most beautiful Italian saying, “Love rules without rules.” The beauty of the quote is that it speaks to anyone questioning why they love who they love, and reminds them that love, with its own rules, comes in the most unexpected and unexplainable ways.

"... The Trick Is To Find Someone Who You Can Love And Live With In Peace."

Hershel To Amy In Season 1, Episode 1

Italy brought Amy into its love whirlwind, as she shared her new relationship with her father. As wise as fathers always are, Hershel made sure to tell his daughter that she can “love many people in this life, but the trick is to find someone who you can love and live with in peace.”

Even with Amy and Lino coming from two completely different worlds, they made it happen and sealed their love despite everything.

"Thank You For Your Life."

Amy To Lino In Season 1, Episode 8

Ultimately and after putting up a good fight, cancer got the best of Lino, and the family prepared itself for what was to come.
