HBO has defended episode 7 of House of the Dragon titled, "Driftmark" after a section of viewers complained that it was too dark to see what was happening on screen, per BBC. "We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in 'House of the Dragon' Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen. The dimmed lighting of this scene was an intentional creative decision," the HBO Max Help Twitter account replied to a viewer.

The sludgy lighting in the episode is reminiscent of the season 8 Game of Thrones episode, "The Long Night," which saw Jon Snow, and his love interest, Daenerys Targaryen, their armies, and allies band together to fight the war against the dead. Jon and Daenerys came together in season 7, and each had a great first love. Daenerys' was Khal Drogo, and Jon's was the Wildling woman, Ygritte. The latter character continues to spawn memes on the internet, thanks to her fascinating arc.

Ygritte Liked To Mock Snow

Jon Snow and Ygritte's love story was fraught with tension and conflict. Whilst he was loyal to the Night's Watch that guarded the realm against Wildling raids, she herself was among the Wildlings.

Ygritte wanted Jon to desert the Watch and join Mance Rayder - the King Beyond the Wall. Being the smart mouth that she was, she loved playfully teasing him at every chance she got. This meme, posted to Reddit by a now-deleted user, humorously points to the fact that if the quick-witted Ygritte were around season 8, and, hearing Jon pledge his loyalty to Daenerys over and over again, she'd without a doubt tease the life out of him.

Complicated Romances

Jon's romances on Game of Thrones were anything but ordinary. His and Ygritte's forbidden love ended when one of Jon's worst enemies on Game of Thrones - Olly - killed the latter with an arrow. Though the pair didn't end up together in the show, the actors who portrayed them, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie married in June 2019, per People.

On Thrones, Jon Snow found love for the second time in the Daenerys, who later turned out to be his aunt. Using actor Kit Harington, and his wife, Rose Leslie's stills, this meme pokes fun at the fact that Jon's second love was just as complicated as his first. The strong-headed Ygritte refused to bow down to his belief system and ideals. In real life, however, the former co-stars are going strong.

The Cave

Ygritte lived courageously, and as she lay dying in Jon's arms, she uttered the lines, "We should have stayed in that cave," which prompted Jon to say, "We'll go back there."

Jon tightly held on to her as she said her classic, "You know nothing, Jon Snow" quote before her last breath. This meme reminds fans of the "The Watchers on the Wall" moment when Ygritte and Jon reminisce about the time Jon broke his vow of celibacy in a steamy cave. Both she and Jon forgot about the worlds and ideals that separated them.

Happy For Snow

Ygritte and Jon's conflicting loyalties cast gloom on their romance. The two met when Jon went ranging beyond the Wall in season 2.

Using Emilia Clarke's Daenerys' and Leslie's Ygritte, this meme cheekily points out that Harington's ill-fated GoT romances are giddy to see the actor posing in a fashion-forward look. Ygritte and Jon had great chemistry, but Jon's real loyalty lay with the Night's Watch. He became the object of Ygritte's wrath when he abandoned her to head back to the Wall.

Jon Belongs With Ygritte

Ygritte died in Jon's arms in "The Watchers on the Wall" - an episode regarded as one of Game of Thrones' best, per Ranker. The tumultuous episode that saw Jon Snow lead the Night's Watch to defend Castle Black against the Wildlings also marked the end of Snow-Ygritte's ill-fated romance.

The star-crossed lovers from Game of Thrones,Rose Leslie and Kit Harington, are happily married, and they welcomed their first child in 2021, per Harper'sBazaar. This meme humorously points to the fact that the fictional character of Ygritte is happy to know that the co-stars ended up together IRL. Ygritte's dying words were that she and Jon Snow should have stayed in the cave, filter out the noise of the outside world, and the surrounding chaos. Whilst other Thrones stars such as Peter Dinklage, Jason Momoa, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's real-life partners are different from those on the show, Harington and Leslie are an exception.

Roasting Snow

The sharp-witted Ygritte uttered her famous line, "You know nothing, Jon Snow," to tell Snow, who came from the "civilized" world, that he is unaware of the harsh realities of her world. She first said the line in season 2, and it has since become one of the Game of Thrones quotes that live rent-free in fans' heads.

This meme uses the classic Ygritte line to take a barb at Jon's disuse in the Battle of Winterfell. Given his history with the Wildlings and the White Walkers, most fans thought of him as the ideal choice to take the Night King down in season 8's episode 3 - "The Long Night." Many have critiqued Arya Stark's killing of the Night King, and the Thrones fanbase generally sees Jon's passivity in the Battle of Winterfell as a disservice to his character. The tart-tongued Ygritte perfectly points out the same in the meme above.

Kissed By Fire

Ygritte's character is described in George RR Martin canon as "unconventionally pretty," per The Telegraph. She was a spearwife of the Free Folk, and her "wild red hair" was one of her defining features in the books as well as in the show.

This meme takes a barb at the bloodthirsty Mother of Dragons who burned King's Landing to ashes. Ygritte was one of the characters who didn't get to witness Dany's devolution on Thrones. This meme jokingly suggests that if Jon's former lover were around, she'd surely have become a target of Dany's ire.

Scaredy-Snow

Jon got worse and worse throughout Game of Thrones. He turned into a passive character and a shadow of his former ambitious self by the end. He kept vehemently pledging his allegiance to Daenerys, much to the chagrin of the fandom. In the show's early seasons, Ygritte symbolized Jon's conflict of choosing between duty and love.

Jon chose duty over love in the show, and Harington married Leslie off-screen. This meme humorously jokes that the Mother of Dragons isn't happy to see the former co-stars tie the knot, and thus the scaredy-cat has to assure her one more time.

Smart Mouth

Ygritte is known for her quick-wit humor and fierce attitude. She'd often mock Jon's naivety and his lack of knowledge about the region north of the Wall.

The Ygritte quotes "You know nothing, Jon Snow" stands out from the rest, and it has become a phenomenon since she first delivered it in season 2's "A Man Without Honor." The versatile line reminds fans of star-crossed lovers and their short-lived romance. This meme uses the said quote to pointout that Game of Thrones season 8 teasers perfectly hyped up the series without giving anything away. HBO released multiple teasers to promote GoT season 8 to add to the hype of the highly anticipated series finale.
