Many Gilmore Girls fans return to the show during the autumn months due to the series' cozy comfort factor, and a big part of what makes the series so comfortable for viewers are the loving relationships depicted between its main characters. These especially include the romance between Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Danes.

The two grow from friends to best friends and confidantes to lovers to exes and back to lovers again. They go through everything together across the seven seasons and miniseries revival, and they have many incredibly romantic quotes that show why they were soulmates.

"I've Seen The Way He Looks At You, The Way You Look At Him."

Emily Gilmore - Season 1, Episode 14

Fans aren't the only ones who can tell from the very beginning of the show that Luke and Lorelai are meant to be together. Even Lorelai's mother Emily, with whom she rarely agrees, can see that there is something special going on between them.

Halfway through the first season, Emily sums up everything she has seen: "This man was at Rory's birthday party. He came to the hospital with you. He's the male lead in every story you tell. You go to the diner every single day. I've seen the way he looks at you, the way you look at him." Emily might be a natural at putting on airs, but she can see through all of Lorelai's pretenses all too easily.

"I'm Grumpy About Stuff, But I Don't Want You To Be."

Luke Danes - Season 5, Episode 11

Part of what makes Luke and Lorelai one of the best couples in the series is the way that they embody the common relationship trope of "grumpy and sunshine." Luke is a total loner and introvert, while Lorelai is extroverted and energetic with everyone she meets.

They are all too aware of the way in which their opposites attract, and Luke even sweetly observes that it might be the case that "[he's] grumpy about stuff, but [he doesn't] want [her] to be." He likes Lorelai just the way she is, and she likes him as he is, too, grumpiness and all.

"There's Rory, Sookie, This Town And You."

Lorelai Gilmore - Season 2, Episode 9

The world of Stars Hollow can be somewhat suffocating and isolating all at once, given how small the town is and how judgmental members of the population can be. Even though she has lived in the town ever since Rory was born, Lorelai still feels like an outsider, and that she doesn't have many people she can count on.

When she feels down on herself, she even begins to doubt whether she can count Luke among those who will be there for her, listing off, "There's Rory, Sookie, this town, and you. At least, I think I've got..." And Luke is quick to allay her worries, assuring her, "You do."

"I Just Want You To Know I'm In. I Am All In."

Luke Danes - Season 5, Episode 3

It takes all the way until season five for Luke and Lorelai to go out on their first date, and the series doesn't disappoint in the slightest with how their first date unfolds.

Luke is steadfast in his care for and support of Lorelai over their years of friendship, but the series doesn't show him as a true romantic lead with a gift for words until this moment. "I just want you to know I'm in," he promises her. "I am all in." And from that moment, Lorelai is too.

"I Don't Think I Ever Really Loved Anyone Until Luke."

Lorelai Gilmore - Season 6, Episode 22

Lorelai has many failed relationships across the first few seasons of Gilmore Girls, including an unsuccessful engagement and many missed connections. But after all the relationships with men who were not at all the one for her, Lorelai finally realizes that it has been Luke all along.

At the end of season six, even when their relationship is nearing its temporary breaking point, Lorelai says it herself: "I don't think I ever really loved anyone until Luke."

"Will You Just Stand Still?"

Lorelai Gilmore And Luke Danes - Season 4, Episode 22

It's the moment that fans have waited years for, when Luke and Lorelai finally share their first kiss in the fourth season finale. Their first kiss happens in the middle of an argument born from a misunderstanding, with both of them talking too much for their own good like they always do.

But it's the way they mirror each other, asking each other to "just stand still" as they kiss not once, but twice, and passionately embrace in the doorway of the inn, that makes this moment so universally beloved.

"My Life Isn't Even Real To Me Unless You're There"

Luke Danes - Season 7, Episode 1

On the other end of the spectrum, season seven is hardly beloved by Gilmore fans, with some even refusing to watch the season to this date since the creators were not involved in writing it. But even this misstep of a season features some important moments for Luke and Lorelai.

In a desperate attempt to repair things with Lorelai after their falling out in the previous episode, Luke passionately professes the depth of his feelings for her: "It's like, my life isn't even real to me unless you're there and you're in it and I'm sharing it with you."

"I Just Like To See You Happy."

Luke Danes - Season 7, Episode 22

Season seven includes another important moment for these two in the form of their reconciliation in the series finale. Luke coordinates the going away party in the town square for Rory, something that floors Lorelai and makes her incredibly emotional.

It's just the latest in a long line of loving gestures from Luke, who considers Lorelai and Rory his family. "I just like to see you happy," he explains, and there is really nothing more romantic than that.

"There Is No One Who Will Be More Here For You Than Me."

Luke Danes - A Year In The Life: Fall

The revival miniseries A Year in the Life features a complex storyline for Luke and Lorelai as they reevaluate what they want their future together to look like, particularly as Lorelai grapples with her own vision for her future following the loss of her father Richard.

But Luke, ever present in Lorelai's life even when she doesn't expect him to be there, delivers a passionate argument for what their life should be: "There is no one who will be more here for you than me. I will never leave. I will never think about leaving. I will do whatever it takes to fix what's wrong."

"You Kept This In Your Wallet?"

Lorelai Gilmore - Season 5, Episode 3

Luke and Lorelai's first date in season five is so incredibly good, it features yet another shining example of why these two are made for one another.

In a surprising move for a character as stoic and reserved as he is, Luke reveals that he has kept a horoscope Lorelai gave him when they first met inside his wallet ever since that day. "You kept this in your wallet?" a stunned Lorelai asks. "Eight years," Luke confirms. There is no going back for them from that moment.
