Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Hobbs & Shaw.

Hobbs & Shaw features a surprise cameo appearance from Kevin Hart - but why was he in the movie? The Fast & Furious spinoff sees Dwayne Johnson reprise his role as Luke Hobbs alongside Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. Hobbs & Shaw is the ninth film in the Fast & Furious franchise and the first time Hobbs and Shaw team up without the rest of the crew joining them.

In their latest mission, the two men must keep Deckard's younger sister, Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), away from the cybernetically-enhanced criminal Brixton (Idris Elba), after she steals a deadly virus from him which he had planned to unleash on the world. Hobbs, Deckard, and Hattie work to find a way to stop Brixton and the shadowy corporation he works for, called Eteon. The trio gets help in some unusual places over the course of Hobbs & Shaw in order to achieve this goal. One person who agrees to help them is a character played by Kevin Hart, who appears in a cameo for the movie.

Hart plays Federal Air Marshal Dinkley, who appears about halfway through Hobbs & Shaw. He first shows up while Hobbs, Deckard, and Hattie are on a plane to Moscow, inserting himself during a heated exchange of insults between the two men. Dinkley tries to cool them down before correctly guessing they're on a special mission. Throughout his conversation with Hobbs and Shaw, Dinkley repeatedly offers to be a part of the team. He also mentions he still has connections to vehicles and weapons from his time in the U.S. military and can get Hobbs and Shaw access to anything they might need. Dinkley later checks in with them to make sure they made it safely to Samoa in a plane that he procured for them.

There's no doubt that Hart's Hobbs & Shaw role happened because of his pre-existing working relationship with Johnson. The actors have appeared in two feature films together - 2016's Central Intelligence and 2017's JumanjiWelcome to the Jungle - and they will next be seen together in 2019's Jumanji: The Next Level. Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch provided some additional information on Hart's cameo, telling Collider that it "was an easy call to make" because of his and Johnson's connection, plus the inclusion of the Dinkley character sprang from the need to have "a Leo Getz-type characterhelp move the plot along.

Hart's cameo is just one of many in Hobbs & Shaw, but his part proves to be an essential one. Considering Dinkley frequently pitches himself to become a member of the team, there's a decent chance that Hart could reprise his role in a potential Hobbs & Shaw sequel.
