When The Mandalorian premieres its third season on Disney+ on March 1, it will have been over two years since the hit Star Wars series aired new episodes. In the interim, Mando’s adventures have continued in The Book of Boba Fett, a polarizing spin-off that not every Mandalorian fan checked out. Without a recap, some viewers will be lost when The Mandalorian returns for season 3.

From Grogu abandoning his Jedi training to Mando acquiring the Darksaber, there are many key storylines to remember before the third season of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+.

10 Mando Has Acquired The Darksaber

In the climactic action of The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale, Mando confronted the show’s big bad, Moff Gideon, and fought him to save Grogu. Mando’s beskar steel protected him from the Moff’s iconic weapon, the Darksaber, and after winning the fight, he claimed the weapon.

As seen in The Book of Boba Fett, Mando hasn’t quite figured out how to use the Darksaber gracefully yet, but it has made it a lot easier for him to clear out a room full of goons while he’s pursuing a bounty.

9 Moff Gideon Has Been Captured

The last time Mando fans saw Moff Gideon, he was cowering in fear as he saw Luke Skywalker’s X-wing arrive on his command ship. A throwaway line in The Book of Boba Fett confirmed that the Moff had been imprisoned by the New Republic following the events of the season 2 finale.

With Moff Gideon out of the picture (at least temporarily), the third season of The Mandalorian might bring in an even more diabolical Star Wars villain to take Gideon’s place.

8 Grogu Has Abandoned His Jedi Training

The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian felt like a huge bombshell that would alter the course of the story. Mando finally reunited Grogu with the Jedi – and with one of the most legendary Jedi in galactic history, no less – and bid his tiny green travel companion farewell. This seemed like a massive change in the status quo of the series, but in the interim between seasons, that status quo has been restored.

In The Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker gave Grogu a choice between continuing his Jedi training and returning to the Mandalorian. He chose the latter, so he’ll be back at Mando’s side when season 3 premieres.

7 Bo-Katan Wants To Reclaim Mandalore

Bo-Katan made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2 with a clearly defined goal. She hopes to rebuild the planet of Mandalore after the Empire left it in ruins. But she needs the Darksaber to claim the throne and the only honorable way to inherit the Darksaber is in combat.

Since Mando has unwittingly stood between the notoriously amoral Bo-Katan and the goal she singularly wants to achieve, Bo-Katan could become a villain in the third season of The Mandalorian.

6 Greef Karga Is The Magistrate Of Nevarro

Carl Weathers featured prominently in the first season of The Mandalorian as his character Greef Karga ran the bounty hunters’ guild and kept Mando employed. In season 2, he reappeared in the episode “Chapter 12: The Siege” – directed by Weathers himself – which revealed that Karga is now the magistrate of Nevarro.

He stayed there after the events of the season 1 finale and has been working with Cara Dune and an unnamed Mythrol to rid the planet of Imperial influence.

5 Mando’s Got A Brand New Ship

In one of the most heartbreaking scenes in The Mandalorian’s second season, Mando’s trusty ship – the Razor Crest – was blown up by the Imperial Remnants. In The Book of Boba Fett, Mando went to Tatooine to buy a new ship from Peli Motto. They fixed up an old N-1 starfighter. He painted it silver and replaced the droid slot with a little cockpit for Grogu.

Like the Razor Crest before it, Mando’s snazzy N-1 starfighter is one of the coolest new ships to join the Star Wars universe since Disney acquired Lucasfilm and took over the franchise.

4 Migs Mayfeld Has Been Freed

Bill Burr’s wisecracking ex-Imperial character Migs Mayfeld was introduced in the prison break episode in season 1, then sprung from his New Republic jail sentence to help save Grogu in season 2. After blowing up an Imperial refinery, Mayfeld was freed by Cara Dune, suggesting that she saw potential in him.

It stands to reason that Mayfeld will return in an episode of season 3 after appearing in both previous seasons. This time around, he might be working with the New Republic to vanquish what remains of the Empire.

3 Cobb Vanth Was Shot By Cad Bane And Revived By A Mod Artist

Cad Bane’s jaw-dropping live-action debut is one of the few things in The Book of Boba Fett that worked. The iconic gunslinger arrived in Tatooine’s Freetown and confronted the marshal: Cobb Vanth, introduced in Boba’s armor in the season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian. After a tense standoff, Bane gunned down Vanth and left in a hurry.

The mid-credits scene in The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Vanth was still alive, recovering in a bacta tank, with a mod artist standing by to replace his damaged body parts with robotic pieces a la Fennec Shand.

2 Ahsoka Tano Is Going After Grand Admiral Thrawn

Ahsoka Tano made her dazzling live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian, which revealed her primary objective: tracking down Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is presumably in charge of the Imperial Remnants. Thrawn is being set up as the big bad of Ahsoka’s upcoming spin-off series.

Since the third season of The Mandalorian is arriving before Ahsoka’s spin-off series, she might begin her search for Thrawn alongside Din Djarin in his show before the storyline continues in hers.

1 Din Djarin Is “A Mandalorian No More”

At the beginning of The Mandalorian’s run, Din Djarin made it clear that part of his religion is never removing his helmet. But he’s since taken it off a few times. He took his helmet off so that IG-11 could operate on him in the season 1 finale, he took it off to break into an Imperial refinery in the penultimate episode of season 2, and he took it off to say a proper goodbye to Grogu in the season 2 finale.

In The Book of Boba Fett, after learning that Mando had taken off his helmet, the Armorer declared him “a Mandalorian no more.” So, while the show is still called The Mandalorian, its title character is no longer a Mandalorian.
