Manifest has had fans enthralled since season 1 premiered on NBC in 2018. After three seasons and a massive cliffhanger ending, fans were disappointed when the network canceled the supernatural drama. But their upset was quickly reversed when Netflix confirmed it would pick up the show for a fourth and final 20-episode split season.

With the first half of season 4 out, with it ending on another cliffhanger, fans can’t wait to see what happens in the end and how it will affect the main characters going forward. However, as many fans know, these two pivotal scenes weren’t the only cliffhangers on the show.

James Is Alive

Season 1, Episode 14 “Upgrade”

In the third-to-last episode of the inaugural season, Michaela is investigating a crashed car following a robbery. Miraculously, as she opens the door to the driver’s side of the car, James Griffin emerges, fully alive. He lunges at her, gasping for air.

As it turns out, James managed to survive for weeks underwater. He was having callings as well. As a criminal, he had big ideas to go public with them and make some serious cash. Strangely, as viewers later discover, James began to dry drown two weeks following what should have been his death date. The scene when he appears alive when he clearly should have been dead raised tons of questions about the passengers and what was truly going on. It’s also the moment that Ben and the others learned of the possible Death Date: that everyone may die after being resurrected for the exact amount of time they were already presumed dead.

Jared And Zeke Fight

Season 1, Episode 16 “Estimated Time Of Departure”

Zeke was already introduced in season 1 as one of the few people who wasn’t on Flight 828 yet seem to be connected in some way. Naturally, given Michaela’s budding relationship with Zeke and awkward relationship with Jared, the two men weren’t fond of one another.

In the final episode of the season, Michaela learned that Zeke bought a gun and he and Jared were fighting in the street. She heard a gunshot and fans were left to wonder if it was one of the two men who was shot and if so, who. Fans couldn’t imagine the show without either character, especially with so many fan theories about Manifest surrounding Zeke and his role in the bigger story.

Vance Is Alive

Season 2, Episode 1 “Fasten Your Seatbelts”

Detective Vance was expected to be dead after the explosion, so fans were both shocked and delighted when Ben was kidnapped by a mysterious group in the first episode of season 2. However, they were in for an even greater surprise when they discovered that the “kidnapper” turned out to be Vance.

A fan favorite character, Vance faked his own death so he could go undercover to continue to help The Returned and track The Major. It’s in the subsequent episode that Vance describes this all to Ben. But by the end of the first episode, fans were understandably perplexed about what was going on.

Jared Betrays The 828ers

Season 2, Episode 3 “False Horizon”

In this episode, fans saw Jared meeting with a bartender named Tamara. At first, it seemed as though he was simply looking to get back into the dating pool after being upset by Michaela, one of the best Flight 828 passengers on Manifest. But, as it turned out, Tamara was a bartender at the bar frequented by Xers.

Fans’ jaws drop when it appeared that Jared had flipped sides and was working against the Flight 828ers. He had seemingly joined the group, plotting against them and it didn’t look like he was on an undercover mission. As it later turned out, he was indeed working his own undercover sting. But for several episodes after this shocking cliffhanger, fans believed the ruse.

The Recovered Tailfin

Season 2, Episode 13 “Icing Conditions”

In the final moments of season 3, fans see a fisherman aboard a boat in Cuba. As they pull up a haul, it turns out not to be fish but rather the tailfin of what appears to be Flight 828. Since the plane had been missing for five years, this is a massive discovery and has fans scratching their heads as to how this is possible if the plane never actually crashed.

The fisherman themselves are just as puzzled, especially when they realize what it is. With this ending the season, fans are left anxiously awaiting season 3 to find out what it all means.

The Methheads

Season 3, Epsiode 1 “Tailfin”

In one of the still very unexplained moments from the show, Jace, Pete, and Kory, known as “the methheads,” emerged from a thawed lake, very much alive. It’s not clear how they did so but they were on a collision course with the Flight 828ers and determined to get their hands on Cal.

It turned out they were the three ominous figures Cal was seeing in his Callings. The story continued with these three men for several episodes. But the moment they emerged from the water, mimicking Cal’s drawing, was terrifying. It ended an episode, leaving fans hungry to learn more.

The Aged Cal And Grace’s Death

Season 3, Episode 13 “Mayday, Part 2”

In one of the most shocking scenes of the show overall, Angelina stabbed Grace, leading to her death (one of the saddest deaths on Manifest). As she was bleeding on the bedroom floor, an adult Cal appeared to comfort her. He looked sad and upset but declared this had to happen.

This is how season 3 ended and it became even more of a cliffhanger when NBC announced that the show had been canceled. Netflix picked up Manifest for a fourth and final season, which gave fans some comfort in knowing that how and why Cal rapidly aged would be explained.

Bill Daly Disappearing

Season 3, Episode 13 “Mayday, Part 2”

Also in the final moments of the season 3 finale, Dr. Gupta is seen in Eureka, about to leave the building. However, what she didn't expect was to see Bill Daly, the pilot of Flight 828, appear in the reconstructed plane. He is there for a short time, but then both he and the plane disappear.

She is visibly confused, as are fans who are completely in awe of the show and what’s happening. They are excited to learn more and this moment leads many to try and piece together their own theories.

Anna Hiding Angelina

Season 4, Episode 1 “Touch-And-Go”

Fans could not believe that, after seeing Anna do everything she could to help Ben find Eden, she would be a bad person. But as it turned out, she had been harboring Angelina and Eden for some time. She later claimed to have been manipulated by Angelina into believing Ben was not a nice man. After she spent time with him, however, she realized she had been duped. Nonetheless, she became one of the low-key villains on Manifest.

The reveal after the first episode of the season that Anna not only knew where Eden was, but that she was in her home, had fans surprised. It left them wondering why and agonizing over how close Ben had come to his daughter. It was also a great way to kick off a long-awaited final season.

Zeke’s Death

Season 4, Episode 10 “Inversion Illusion”

Fans didn’t see it coming, especially since Zeke had cheated death so many times before on the show. But it appeared it was finally his time to go - and the death was both poetic and heroic. Zeke finally came to terms with his reason for being brought back: it was to meet Michaela, forgive himself, and help others.

The most important person he needed to help, however, was Cal. He had grown close enough to the young man that when he saw him on his deathbed and knew he could help, Zeke didn’t see any other option than the sacrifice himself. It was a beautiful full circle moment for the man who had spent all his adult life feeling guilty for the death of his own sibling. Now, he was able to go peacefully and feeling fully redeemed. Nonetheless, the final episode of the first half of season 4 ending this way left fans anxious to see the aftermath.
