Aubrey Plaza is the latest star to join the MCU, as news got out of her casting in the upcoming WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The report comes at Plaza's height of her career, as she also receives raving reviews for her portrayal of Harper in The White Lotus season 2.

While details about her role are scarce, trades reported she would play a villain in the show, so Marvel's magical corner has no shortage of compelling and intriguing characters. Fans might not know for sure until more details about the show emerge, but they can make several informed guesses about Plaza's mysterious role.

Shadow King

Plaza is no stranger to the superhero genre. The actress played the main antagonist in season 1 of FX's underrated sci-fi masterpiece Legion. An inspired take on the supervillain Shadow King, Plaza's role was initially a friend of the show's main character; her death in the first episode led to her persona and form being adopted by Amahl Farouk, the supervillain also known as Shadow King.

Although it's highly unlikely Plaza will reprise her role as Shadow King for Coven of Chaos -- it would mean the MCU would canonize Legion -- it is nonetheless a possibility. Plaza's performance is one of Legion's many highlights, and it would be a delight to see her in the role again.

Nicholas Scratch

Gender-bending is a popular way of updating a well-known character and introducing a little twist. The MCU has done this approach several times before with characters like the Ancient One, Ajak, and Makkari, so it wouldn't be exactly groundbreaking for them to do it with Nicholas Scratch.

In the comics, Scratch is Agatha's vengeful son. He usually adopts an antagonistic role, acting as a villain to the Fantastic Four. Scratch is a powerful magic user in the Marvel universe, and he makes perfect sense as the main antagonist of Agatha's show. Plaza would excel in the role, bringing her trademark dry humor and injecting new life into the character.

Reptilla

The Salem's Seven are a team of villains originally introduced in the Bronze Age of comic books. They originated in the town of New Salem, populated exclusively by magic users, and are the children of Nicholas Scratch. Reptilla is among the Salem's Seven original members, a woman capable of transforming into a snake-like creature.

Reptilla might not be among the most famous or powerful magical beings in Marvel Comics, but she is a prominent player in the Salem corner. Coven of Chaos will probably explore Agatha's connection to Salem, and Reptilla is a viable role for Plaza. Her snake-like transformation will be tough to pull, but the CGI in WandaVision was top-notch; it can be done.

Selene Gallio

Recent storylines have Agatha joining the Daughters of Liberty following her resurrection. She teaches the team magic and acts like a de-facto mentor, forming close bonds with them. Among the members is Sharon Carter, whose soul got stolen by Selene Gallio.

Selene is an ancient mutant who can drain other people's life force, effectively making her immortal. Selene is often a villain to the X-Men and a part of the Hellfire Club, but she could feasibly work within the Agatha show; her powers could even become witchcraft instead of mutant abilities. Plaza fits the bill for Selene, who is often depicted with a gothic image.

Hecate

The Marvel Universe has no shortage of gods in its pantheon, and they are slowly making their way to the MCU. Hecate is among the most powerful Olympian Gods in Marvel Comics, initially acting as Mount Olympus' main source of magic. Zeus casts her to Earth after finding out she gave magic to humans, stripping her of her magic and wiping her memory.

Throughout her somewhat convoluted storyline, Hecate has been one of Marvel's most prominent magical users. She is the mother of all witches, making her an ideal candidate for Agatha's show. Plaza would nail the role of a witch with a grudge for making, and while Hecate is not an outright villain in the comics, she could be a great antagonist in Coven of Chaos.

Hilda Von Hate

Marvel isn't afraid to dip into the truly zany; Hilda Von Hate, She-Witch of the SS, is the perfect example. The character was the Nazi's witch ally, supporting their efforts with her magical abilities, enhanced by her pact with Erida, the Goddess of Hatred. During World War II, Agatha joins the Department of the Uncanny, putting her into conflict with Hilda.

The idea of Plaza playing a Nazi witch called Hilda Von Hate is too ludicrous to pass. The character is all pastiche, wearing a massive feathered headdress and carrying a cane with two human skulls. Subtlety is nowhere to be found with Hilda, and Plaza, known for her quirky and compelling movies, would relish playing such an over-the-top character.

Satana

Antiheroes are slowly taking over the superhero landscape, and Satana could join them soon. Originally the daughter of Satan, Satana is Daimon Hellstrom's sister. She widely embraces her demonic abilities, although she often plays the role of an antihero rather than an outright villain.

Despite debuting in the Bronze Age, she remains a somewhat overlooked character, making her an ideal candidate for the MCU to reinvent. Plaza would be a great fit as the succubus, injecting the role with her wicked sense of humor and undeniable charisma.

Emerald Warlock

Known by many names throughout his life, the Emerald Warlock is infamous for his lack of loyalty. He serves no one but himself, changing allegiances whenever it suits him. Like many other magic users, the Emerald Warlock is old, with his earliest records coming from 600 B.C.

The Emerald Warlock crosses paths with Agatha during World War II when they both serve as members of the Department of the Uncanny. The Warlock also has numerous encounters with the Scarlet Witch, to the point where he could be considered one of her main villains. Plaza could portray a gender-swapped version of the Warlock, opening the door for Wanda's potential return in the series.

Chthon

Chthon is one of the most terrifying demons in Marvel Comics. One of the Elder Gods of Earth, Chthon is the writer of the Darkhold, the book of chaos that Agatha and later Wanda possess in the MCU.

WandaVision hinted at Chthon's potential arrival with its introduction of the Darkhold. Wanda and Agatha's stories are deeply intertwined with the demon and the Darkhold, and Coven of Chaos could explore that link and use it to resurrect Billy and Tommy. Plaza could play Chthon's human form or perhaps a witch in his service; either way, having her play the character would be an inspired choice from Marvel.

Morgan Le Fay

One of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel canon, Morgan le Fay is an immortal fairy and supervillain. Throughout her long history, Morgan has served as a foe for the Avengers, is Doctor Doom's former lover and mother to his child, Caroline, and has deep ties to the Darkhold.

Introducing Morgan in Coven of Chaos would be a huge deal and have deep repercussions for the MCU's magical corner. Morgan is a major character worthy of Plaza's talent, and the actress would surely shine in the role. Playing Morgan would also allow Plaza to avoid the one-off faith most MCU villains share, opening the door for her return in other projects, including potentially Doctor Strange 3.
