While not much is known about Agatha: Coven Of Chaos just yet, Joe Locke, best known for Netflix’s Heartstopper series, has been cast and joins Kathryn Hahn in the magical mayhem (via Variety). For now, his role remains undisclosed, but fans anticipate that the series will take quite a chaotic and mystical turn, especially given its connection to WandaVision.

With no detail of when the MCU series will take place or what the show's premise will be, it’s hard to deduce which Marvel characters will appear. There are, however, plenty of characters connected to Agatha Harkness in the comics - or the magical world itself - that could make for interesting roles for Locke to take on.

Nicholas Scratch

One of the most likely candidates is Agatha Harkness' son, Nicholas Scratch. Though Agatha is a villain in WandaVision, in the comics, she often works alongside heroes, and her own son works against her. Nicholas often tries to oust his mother from positions of power, turns other magical users against her, and seeks to make himself the most powerful magic user around.

With little known about Agatha’s life in between taking her own mother’s power and her turning up as a neighbor in WandaVision, it’s not out of the question for Nicholas to exist within the MCU and have it out for his mother. A villainous role would be a huge departure for Locke as well with his character in Heartstopper winning the hearts of the audience easily.

One Of Salem’s Seven

In the main Marvel comic book continuity, there is a group of magical users called Salem’s Seven. They live in the town of New Salem, a place created as a haven for magic users, and they turn on Agatha under their father's direction. The seven siblings are the children of Nicholas Scratch.

While they don’t have to be siblings in Coven Of Chaos, with a title like that, it seems that Agatha is going to have quite a few other magic users in her series. Six of these seven characters can transform into an animal-like being with different abilities. With the campy nature of these particular characters in the comics, it's hard to pinpoint just which one would be the best fit for Locke. A character like Vakume, who can control air and become intangible, would give Locke the chance to stretch his creative skills while acting with more special effects and CGI.

One Of Marvel’s Ultimate Salem Seven

In Marvel’s Ultimate universe, Salem’s Seven are not Nicholas Scratch's grandchildren. Instead, they’re a group of superheroes. Marvel’s writers do like to pull a lot of content from the Ultimate universe to mix up the storylines for the MCU.

In this other continuity, not only does each member of the seven have their own unique ability, but they also can unite to form a dragon. While that might seem like a big leap for the show, dragon-like creatures are a staple in magical stories in the comics, so it’s not far-fetched to see this version of the seven with Locke as one of the team. This team is less campy than the seven siblings with more traditionally dramatic attitudes. Locke was able to show off his dramatic skills in Heartstopper and still charm the audience, so he would be able to make any member of the team likable.

Aaron The Sorcerer

Of course, some of the MCU’s more successful adaptations are characters who don’t have a ton of comic book history from which to draw. Characters that the writers and actors can make their own mean there’s a lot less nit-picking by comic book fans, which is why Aaron the Sorcerer could be a nice addition to the show - and one most fans wouldn’t expect.

Aaron appeared in a single issue of Journey Into Mystery in 1962 in which he got a job at a gas station and tried to live a normal life, but he was pursued by wizards who wanted his magical abilities. He used his abilities to repair things around the station that were seemingly impossible to fix, and he fell for the station owner's daughter. That’s all the story that he’s involved in, which means the character would be nearly a blank slate for writers to run with. That also means Locke's performance wouldn't be influenced by the character's fans. He could put his own spin on Aaron without worrying about the backlash that could commence.

Belasco

While it will likely still be years before the X-Men or their related characters appear in the MCU, laying the groundwork for them now could be a good gamble for the MCU writers. Belasco is a demonic entity who pursues Illyana Rasputin - the hero eventually known as Magik - as a child in his quest to bring the Elder Gods to Earth. He spends much of his time in the comics trapped in Limbo, wanting to make Illyana his disciple, but he has a history long before he meets Illyana that involves him wanting to increase the reach of the Elder Gods and create his own new demonic race.

Coven of Chaos would be a good start to planting the seeds for the character to eventually have a larger story. It would also be a good gamble to cast a younger actor in the role, someone who could grow with it if the character is only teased now and expanded later on. Locke's only professional role prior to Coven of Chaos is his role in Heartstopper. Playing a role like Belasco, someone so sinister and power-hungry, could really show audiences that he's capable of more.

A Franklin Richards Variant

Agatha Harkness is most often tied to two characters in the comics - Wanda Maximoff and Franklin Richards. The audience has already seen her interact with Wanda, and Franklin’s Fantastic Four family is on the way in their own MCU movie. It would make sense to see him, or a variation of him, in Agatha’s story.

The MCU is no longer constrained by timelines or a single universe thanks to projects like Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. It’s not a leap to consider that Coven Of Chaos could see magical steps into other timelines or dimensions as well. Franklin Richards, as Agatha Harkness' student from another timeline, could be a great tease for the upcoming Fantastic Four, even if the audience doesn’t yet know who will play Sue Storm or Reed Richards, his parents. Locke would be a great fit to play Richards as a self-assured teen who understands his power long before the audience ever sees a younger actor struggle to learn and control it.

Scrier

The original Scrier is an ancient being. He claimed to be the entity who created life on Earth, but even in Marvel Comics, there are many different versions of the creation of life on Earth. While he would be an unlikely candidate for the series, the Brotherhood of Scrier might not be so far off.

Agatha has worked with the original Scrier in the comics to heal the Silver Surfer before. The Brotherhood, a group of followers who are also often magic-users, could be a rival group for Agatha’s titular coven. After all, there are more magic users in Marvel stories than simply the magicians at Kamar-Taj who work with Wong. If Locke appeared as a member of the Brotherhood, it would, like Aaron the Sorcerer, give the writers and Locke free rein to interpret the character how they see fit. Locke could make what would otherwise be a generic minion his own.

Sean Dolan

Season Dolan has appeared in just over a dozen issues of Marvel Comics, so he might not be particularly well-known to a lot of comic readers. The character has a tie to an item that is going to be important to future storylines involving the supernatural in the MCU, and if Coven Of Chaos is used to further the MCU's supernatural backstory, he could be a good candidate.

Originally from Ireland and a squire of one of the Black Knights in the comics, Sean ends up in possession of the Ebony Blade. When he uses the blade, an entity known as the Bloodwraith takes over. With the Ebony Blade in Dane Whitman's possession in the modern day, it would be interesting to see how it might have affected others before him. It could be a darker role for Locke, again allowing him a departure from Heartstopper as Bloodwraith is particularly violent and larger than life. Locke would have to dig deep to inhabit the character's more tortured aspects.

Billy Maximoff

Billy Maximoff already exists in the MCU, played by Julian Hilliard. While Wanda Maximoff created her children as part of her ideal world in WandaVision, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness did reveal that her children exist in other universes. Hilliard is much younger than Locke, so Locke could play an older version of the character. Both actors have a charming and friendly quality to them in their most famous roles that would make it easy for audiences to see them as two versions of the same person.

Of course, if he does, that's another case of Coven of Chaos potentially crossing into multiple timelines or universes, which isn't confirmed for the series. But as Wiccan becomes a powerful magic user in Marvel comics, fans don't feel his story in the MCU has ended just yet.

A Brand New Character

It’s easy to speculate when actors are cast in a comic book movie that they are playing any number of comic book characters. While it’s entirely possible that Joe Locke is playing an existing comic book character, it’s also perfectly reasonable to think that he’s not.

There are a lot of characters who exist in the MCU who were never a part of the comics. There are also some who were created for the MCU that ended up being brought into the comics after, like Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg), who ended up spinning out into the Agents Of SHIELD television show. Either way, Locke's roll in Agatha: Coven Of Chaos is sure to keep fans speculating.
