Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet introduce players to the new and exciting region of Paldea, based on the Iberian Peninsula. A brand-new Pokémon game means an all-new roster of Pokémon, and Generation IX features an intriguing and eclectic collection of creatures, including some incredible Fire-types.

As one of the three Starter types, Fire has a special place in the franchise. It's a balanced and offensively viable type, making it a must in many Trainers' teams. Luckily for them, Gen IX introduces several great Fire-types worthy of standing alongside the all-time best fiery creatures in the franchise.

9 Crocalor

Middle-stage evolutions are weird, stuck in the awkward teenage years between "cute baby" and "fully evolved beast." Crocalor isn't the worst mid-stage evolution in the franchise, but it isn't the best either. It has some intriguing design choices, but it suffers compared to Fuecoco and Skeledirge.

Crocalor's fiery sombrero is questionable at best, as it recalls a stereotypical portrayal of Mexican people. However, the Pokémon franchise often goes for the bluntest references, and they already did the whole sombrero thing six generations ago with Ludicolo. Crocalor has OK stats, but few will miss it once it evolves.

8 Charcadet

The tiny humanoid Charcadet is among the weirdest-looking creatures in Gen IX. A pure Fire-type, it might not be one of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's best mono-type additions — it's an initial stage, after all — but it has a promising future and decent stats to carry it there.

Charcadet is frail as heck, with a Speed stat that would disappoint a Slowpoke. However, Trainers with enough patience to gather enough Bronzor Fragments or Sinistea Chips will get a reward for their efforts, as Charcadet will evolve into one of two powerful Pokémon. Charcadet might not look like much, but it's what lies within that matters.

7 Scovillain

There are ugly Fire-type Pokémon, and then there's Scovillain. Looking more like a monster out of a child's nightmare than a Pokémon, Scovillain has one of the laziest designs to ever disgrace the franchise. It's beyond ugly; it's preposterous.

However, Scovillain has one of the most unusual types: Grass/Fire, a combination fans have wanted since the dawn of the franchise. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet made millions of fans' dreams come true by including it, and although Scovillain's design is awful and its stats underwhelming, capable Trainers should work around its weaknesses and take full advantage of its incredible typing.

6 Skeledirge

Skeledirge has an inspired design and a great type combination, making it the best final form of the Paldean Starters. It's also quadrupedal, avoiding the "furry bait" accusations aimed at bipedal Pokémon. Skeledirge includes its Mexican-inspired design choices more organically and less stereotypically than Crocalor, making it a win in many players' books.

Stat-wise, Skeledirge has a 530 total, with a strong emphasis on Physical Defense and Special Attack. Its Speed is lackluster, but it makes up for it in the other departments. Fire and Ghost is a tricky combo, but Trainer with enough experience will bring the best out of Skeledirge, using it against many of the region's most challenging Gym Leaders, including Ryme and Tulip.

5 Chi-Yu

Dark and Fire was a type-combo fans long-wanted to see in a Legendary Pokémon. Scarlet and Violet have made their dreams come true with Chi-Yu, the first Dark/Fire Legendary and one of the most unique-looking creatures in the games. Looking like a cross between a fish and flame, Chi-Yu is instantly memorable, even if it looks more Mythical than Legendary.

Chi-Yu's stats are weaker than other Legendaries, but it's still powerful enough to conquer most of Paldea's average Pokémon. It is also one of the less evil-looking Dark-types, giving it another reason to stand out from the crowd.

4 Fuecoco

The Fire Starters are among the best Pokémon in their respective regions, and Fuecoco is no exception. Since its debut, fans have wanted to meet and train it, eager to see how its evolutionary line would go. And while not everyone loves its two evolutions, Fuecoco remains a fan favorite.

Stats don't matter when talking about a Starter's initial form. With these babies, it's all about the design. Fuecoco is memorable and adorable, accomplishing the two main qualities every Starter needs. Half crocodile, half dinosaur, Fuecoco is the best of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Starters. It also disproved the Chinese Zodiac theory, making it a hero of the fandom.

3 Armarouge

Armarouge is a Pokémon Scarlet exclusive, the result of exposing Charcadet to the Auspicious Armor. Upon its reveal, many fans compared Armarouge and its Violet counterpart to the iconic Mega Man, and it's easy to see why. Armarouge is one of the franchise's most humanoid-looking characters, but its design remains cool nonetheless.

In the stats department, Armarouge excels in Physical Defense and Special Attack, although its Physical Attack and Speed are disappointing. Armarouge's type-combo, Fire and Psychic, leave it with five weaknesses, which is less than ideal. However, they also grant seven resistances, including Fairy and Steel, the franchise's two strongest types. Experienced Trainers will doubtless make the most out of this fascinating creature.

2 Ceruledge

Like Armarouge, Ceruledge evolves from Charcadet after exposure to the Malicious Armor. Unlike Armarouge, however, Ceruledge is a Violet exclusive, and it's Fire/Ghost instead of Fire/Psychic.

Ceruledge is among Scarlet and Violet's Pokémon with the highest Physical Defense, with a massive 125 stat. Its Special Attack is underwhelming, which is not great for a Pokémon with its type-combo, which also makes it weak to five types. However, Fire/Ghost makes it immune to two types and provides resistance against seven, making Ceruledge one of the best options in the games.

1 Iron Moth

Volcarona is already one of the coolest Pokémon in the franchise. It looks majestic and powerful, to the point where many fans confuse it for a Legendary Pokémon. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet further contributes to Volcarona's legacy by introducing Iron Moth, a futuristic relative of the beloved bug.

Iron Moth has the coolest design out of all the Paradox forms. Volcarona's leaf-like wings become mechanical spikes, adding a sense of danger to an already intimidating design. Fire/Poison is a great combo. Yes, it makes Iron Moth four times weak to Ground, but there are ways around that. Iron Moth resists eight types and has decent Speed and above-average Special Attak, meaning it can cause severe damage before its enemies can even touch it.
