Candice King has been busy ruling social media with a milestone of 10 million followers on Instagram, and the launch of her latest project, A Superbloom Podcast. She has only been collecting accolades since her time in The Vampire Diaries Universe as Caroline became a role model for young girls globally.

However, like most characters on the show, Caroline had her flaws and took some bad decisions during her time in Mystic Falls and out of it too. She was a good friend and partner, but her vampirism and the confusing world of the supernatural did go down some unsavory routes sometimes.

Caroline Initially Made Elena A Rival At The Beginning

Caroline changed a lot from season 1 of The Vampire Diaries, and her main trait at the beginning was being envious about everyone - especially when it came to Elena. As a human, she chose to make an enemy out of Elena, even though the latter only wanted to be her friend. The older Gilbert had been through immense loss, but Caroline insisted on being petty with her.

Caroline's jealousy was pretty awful when she was a human teenager, and she could have put aside her insecurities to support her friend.

Caroline Was Nasty To Her Mother

Liz and Caroline's relationship was rocky at the start since Liz was always at work and Caroline felt neglected. Still, the young vamp-to-be went out of her way to guilt-trip her mother, who worked hard and tried her best to be there for her daughter when her father was living in another city.

Knowing that Liz was a single parent, Caroline could have shown more empathy and understanding to her mother, who protected the town and fended for her. As a character, Caroline was extremely negative and insulting at the beginning, and berating her mother in front of other people was a bad call.

Caroline Spied For Katherine

Being a double agent was not something Caroline ever wanted, but Katherine compelled her to act against her friends through threats and intimidation. She spied on Stefan and Elena for Katerina, and she was quite afraid of her too. However, Caroline could have tipped off her friends.

She could have found a way to let them know that Katherine was on to them. Thankfully, Caroline's espionage skills were so miserable that Stefan and Elena realized that she was reporting to Katherine, and devised a plan themselves.

Caroline Killed 12 Witches

Usually, Caroline was very controlled as a vampire, and she didn't take lives unnecessarily, (like others of her kind). Still, her protective instincts sometimes got the better of her, and when 12 witches tried to kill Bonnie for going too deep into Expression magic, Caroline decided to kill them.

While her intentions were to save Bonnie, the loss of life was indiscriminate and unfair. The witches were only doing their duty to their kind, which was to keep balance in nature, and Caroline had no business ending so many lives just to save one friend.

Caroline Turned Off Her Humanity

Drowning in the grief of her mother's passing, Caroline did the one thing she could to alleviate the pain — she turned off her humanity. At first, she only used it as a means to avoid the sadness that weighed her down, but soon enough she was going on killing sprees.

She did some abhorrent things while her switch was flipped, which included kidnapping Sarah Salvatore, making a med student operate on her forcefully, and killing people for fun. She truly lost control after a point, making this one of her worst decisions.

Caroline Made Stefan Turn Off His Humanity

Stefan and Caroline's relationship on The Vampire Diaries was a complicated one, and Caroline made it worse by forcing Stefan to turn off his humanity with her. This was wrong on many levels, the first being that she made someone do something against their will. Stefan was known to become a Ripper and absolutely ruthless when he flipped the switch, and she made him do the one thing he was afraid of doing.

Secondly, she ruined the beginnings of her relationship with him, as they got intimate while having their humanities off. Considering she had wanted a romantic relationship with Stefan, this was certainly not the best way to start a relationship.

Caroline Didn't See The World With Klaus

Many TVDU fans will agree the best decision that Klaus made was accepting Caroline into his heart, but Caroline made a bad call by not following hers. She was in love with him, but because she wanted to support her friends, Caroline quelled her own feelings to stay on the "right" side.

Caroline had helped Elena and the gang enough, and she was within her right to take off with Klaus to see the world. In a way, she would have distracted him from Mystic Falls this way, too, and he could have left her friends alone, while she would have found joy and love.

Caroline Alienated Matt

Matt and Caroline had loved each other, once upon a time, but Caroline had hurt him too many times, which made her lose a dear friend. After becoming a vampire, she compelled him to break up with her so that she wouldn't hurt him, but she made herself look possessive to do so.

Later, their relationship deteriorated further when she stabbed him while playing 'Caroline trivia' with him and Tyler, with her humanity turned off. These incidents made him hate vampires and turn on his own friends, and Caroline would have done better to make him feel safer.

Caroline Wasted Years With Alaric

The birth of the twins was a blessing for Caroline, but as a young woman, she decided to spend years with Alaric so that they could co-parent Josie and Lizzie. Caroline gave up her own desires and dreams of love for the sake of her children, which was noble, but ultimately erosive to her own heart.

Caroline had always wanted true love, and to pacify Alaric, she repressed herself and settled for less. She could have been a parent to the girls and also been apart from Alaric, had she been given some guidance on how to tackle the situation.
