The current vampire show captivating fans is Vampire Academy, which has proven to be popular both with fans of the book series and fans of The Vampire Diaries (who have felt lost since the franchise ended with the finale of Legacies). In Vampire Academy, the society is deeply rooted in hierarchy, with the Moroi vampires ruling over the Dhampirs, and the Strigoi cast as evil, souless perversions.

The strict morality that defines the different vampires in Vampire Academy creates an interesting take on societal roles, but it gets most entertaining as those boundaries are broken down. This is something that always captivated fans of The Vampire Diaries, because the same characters that fans love for their goodness can be incredibly dangerous when they turn their humanity off. Across the TVDU, some vampires without their humanity could easily destroy whole cities, while others stuck to pettier crimes.

8 Jade

Jade was the first vampire to turn her humanity off in Legacies, but she was also the least dangerous character to ever do so. Jade killed her friend Inez while her humanity was still on because she was a Ripper. She only turned it off after the fact because she felt so guilty about it.

Once she was in the Prison World, she and her friends made a game of killing each other, but they would always come back shortly thereafter. Her plan to kill Alaric then drags on, which allows Josie to force her humanity back on, leaving her with a no-humanity long-term kill count at zero.

7 Elena Gilbert

Elena may have looked more like Katherine with her humanity off, but that didn't make her dangerous. She killed a waitress, but everyone else she attacked managed to survive. Whether that was a matter of incompetence or internalized morality, it meant that Elena was never much of a threat.

Her malicious instincts instead came in the form of sexual manipulation and petty annoyances (which was particularly obvious in season 4 "Pictures of You," where Elena stole Caroline's prom dress just to mess with her). Overall, she was too focused on her friends to cause widespread pain, and her return to humanity showed that she wouldn't have been able to handle actually killing a close friend.

6 Enzo St. John

Enzo is a keenly loyal character, but turning off his humanity made it possible for him to hurt those that were closest to him. Audiences saw Enzo turn off his humanity twice, and on both occasions, it led to drastic changes in character. Though it was unclear when exactly his humanity came back on the first time, it was obvious that he had when he dedicated himself to saving Damon, rather than torturing him.

After effectively being the Augustine's pet killer for years, Enzo could cause a lot of harm when he let himself. He was happy to kill anyone in his way, but he was also gifted in emotionally wrecking those he knew well. However, the speed at which Bonnie was able to make him turn it back on suggests that, like Elena, he wouldn't be much of a threat if his loved ones were at stake.

5 Isobel Flemming

Although it was never fully confirmed, Damon suggests that Isobel turned off her humanity, which certainly seems plausible given her attitude toward humans. Isobel willingly killed anyone who got in her way and used compulsion freely to control the people around her.

Isobel's pure apathy toward human life was clearest when she compelled a man to kill himself just to send a message. Though she seemed slightly more caring toward Elena and Alaric, she was still willing to hurt them if necessary. The only reason she wasn't more dangerous was that she seemed content to compel others more often than killing them, preferring a life of leisure to one of violence.

4 Damon Salvatore

While Damon was a serious threat, that wasn't greatly changed when he turned his humanity off. He had his humanity off when fans first met him, but there wasn't an easily identifiable time that he turned it back on. Even when he turned it off in season 8, he largely seemed like the same character. Damon had one clear identity, and while he was more violent with his humanity off, that was the only real difference.

Damon Salvatore was selfish, impulsive, and obsessive, and those traits often led him to hurt or kill innocents and enemies alike. But he also loved fiercely and protected his friends with everything he had. Since he was such a consistent character, the status of his humanity was largely irrelevant to how dangerous he was.

3 Caroline Forbes

Caroline was a serious control freak, and because she set so many rules for herself with her humanity off, she wasn't much of a threat to begin with. Had she been left to her own devices, she probably would have been the least dangerous humanity-less vampire on the show. However, she told her friends that she would wreak havoc if they messed with her, and she followed through with that threat.

Not only did Caroline compel Liam to vivisect Sarah Salvatore, but she forced Stefan to turn his humanity off. That was perhaps her most deadly decision in the series. However, an episode of Legacies showed that if Hope had never been born, Caroline would have married Klaus, turned off her humanity, and started multiple nationwide wars, killing everyone they encountered. So while she wasn't a major threat in season 6, her willingness to bring out the monsters in others and play at their level could be apocalyptic.

2 Hope Mikaelson

The final season of Legacies saw Hope become a full Tribrid, kill Malivore, and promptly turn her humanity off. By all measures, this should have made her the most dangerous humanity-less vampire in history. She had virtually unchecked power, no emotions, and a reputation to ruin. While she had previously tried to live up to her family's expectations, she then tried to exceed their worst nightmares.

The problem was, the series never allowed Hope to be as dangerous as she should have been. She easily killed anyone who got in her way and showed a vindictive side when it came to Alaric, Lizzie, and Aurora, but she was constantly making stupid mistakes. Hope Mikaelson easily could have burned the world to the ground, but the writers didn't let her really let loose. Because of that, she never had the proper villain arc she deserved.

1 Stefan Salvatore

There could be no other choice than Stefan for the most dangerous humanity-less vampire. Paul Wesley has discussed how much he enjoyed playing the Ripper of Monterey, and he got the opportunity multiple times (via Pinkvilla). In addition to flashbacks, Stefan turned his humanity off three times during the series proper. He was known for killing entire towns, and his kills were more brutal than nearly any other character.

In addition to having the highest kill count on The Vampire Diaries, Stefan knew how to make his loved ones hate him. He seemed to get a sick sense of pleasure out of torturing them, and killing Enzo in front of Bonnie was a moment many fans see as thoroughly irredeemable. When other characters went on a rampage, there might be a handful of bodies. When Stefan did it, he could take entire cities off the map in a single lazy afternoon.
