The Winchesters has successfully presented a new side to the Supernatural series since its debut, with showrunner Robbie Thompson recently promising more twists to take place. The John and Mary Winchester spin-off has managed to claim a dedicated audience primarily due to the diverse set of characters it features.

These characters range from a sassy know-it-all like Carlos to a deep-thinking personality such as Latika. Although they all have something for fans to like about them, the characters’ motivations and attitudes shape this likability factor in different ways.

The Akrida

One of the biggest retcons from Supernatural in The Winchesters is that the Akrida are now the primary threat to the universe as opposed to Michael and Lucifer. These creatures lack the charisma of many other Supernatural villains since they’ve been portrayed as straight-up monsters.

The Winchesters has shown the Akrida’s leader to either be human or have a humanoid appearance, which might provide some material to carve out her personality. But the Akrida have so far been quite dull and unremarkable, making them hard to relate to as fans were accustomed to feeling toward Supernatural villains.

Mille Winchester

Millie has by no means been unlikable as much as she’s served as a hurdle for John to conduct his hunting activities. As a result, fans will be inclined to consider with caution since she tries to get John to stop putting himself in danger, which is the whole point of the series.

Millie’s reasons are justified since she lost her husband under mysterious circumstances and has had to raise John on her own. But her disconnect with the supernatural and the usual adventures the protagonists go through prevent her from making much of an impact.

Mary Campbell

Mary has been a better character in The Winchesters than she was in Supernatural, where she never quite bonded with her sons. The Winchesters has made her a lot more likable through her need to do right and the way she’s eased John into the hunting lifestyle.

Mary is relatively rough around the edges due to the chip on her shoulder through the issues with her father. These have brought some intense moments where she’s said hurtful things. While this takes a bit of her likability away, fans can appreciate it’s part of her character development and can focus on her stronger points like the way she holds the group together.

John Winchester

There were many personality traits shared between John and Dean in Supernatural that haven’t shown up as much in The Winchesters, where he behaves more like Sam. That works in John’s favor in terms of likability since he’s much more sensitive and tactful with the people around him.

John honored his friendship with the group straight after meeting them and made Mary confront her past issues. He’s also been a good person for Latika to confide in, even putting up with Carlos’ antics. John’s attitude toward his mother hasn’t been as good, which is justified due to his frustrations but also makes him seem unappreciative of her sacrifices. Still, he’s largely been a good person to have around.

Carlos Cervantez

The concept of a dedicated team of hunters makes this Supernatural spin-off quite similar to Buffy, as the group has various personalities. Carlos takes up the role of the sassy maverick who does what he likes and is unapologetic with his snarky attitude.

He’s arguably shown the most personality among the main characters, always having an opinion and being confrontational over his viewpoint. Carlos can be a bit aggressive when things don’t go his way, which is something he needs to work on for fans to fully warm up to him. However, his penchant for stealing the scenes he’s in makes him a fan favorite for sure.

Latika Desai

Latika has been the warmest character to be around for each member of the group, with the character always willing to lend advice and to listen to the others’ problems. Her helpful nature has made her the go-to person for the protagonists to seek help with the supernatural, which makes her highly useful as well.

Latika has been a kind, good-natured person in general, but the mystery surrounding her past might make viewers wary of her. Latika has been shown to change her demeanor when confronted with personal details that make her all the more interesting and creates a bit of apprehension within the fanbase.

Ada Monroe

Ada pretty much came into the protagonists' lives by accident when she was possessed by a demon. She’s channeled what should have been a traumatizing experience into becoming the master of the occult within her group, capable of exorcisms that even Sam and Dean weren’t.

Ada has been an all-around hospitable, understanding, and helpful part of the team who hasn’t displayed any characteristics that would make her unlikable. Her mastery of dealing with incoming threats and the supernatural also makes her a badass protagonist in the series.

Dean Winchester

Dean’s role in The Winchesters is to primarily act as the narrator and the person who places things into context for viewers. Still, it’s the same Dean that fans came to love in Supernatural, so it’s a given that fans will continue to see him as their favorite.

Dean’s voiceover has also been far more mature than he was in the original series, as the character has come to terms with his parents’ past and is appreciative of the struggles they went through. This new side of the protagonist goes to show how interesting he can remain so long after his first appearance and why he’s so beloved to viewers.
