The trailers for the upcoming fifth season of Yellowstone predict a costly ascend to power for John Dutton in what could be the most thrilling season of the show yet. While John Dutton's ascend to power was predictable from the end of the fourth season when Jamie was cornered by Beth, it is still unclear what price the Duttons have to pay to get the governorship.

The sibling rivalry between Jamie and Beth had almost reached its climax in the fourth season, but fans would still love to know what Beth does with her half-brother. Whatever direction the show takes, drama on the Yellowstone ranch and the Dutton family squabbles won't be worth it if these questions stay unanswered.

What Did Kayce's Vision Mean?

Kayce said, "I saw the end of us" while addressing the vision he had during his quest, but the show never clarified what he meant by "us." During his quest, he saw two paths that he was supposed to take, but it is not clear whether they meant the ranch and the Duttons or just his relationship with Monica.

If it meant the end of his relationship with Monica, then it would give Kayce a bigger role on the ranch in the fifth season because Monica was the main reason why Kayce stayed away from the ranch for most of the first four seasons. If the vision means doom for the Dutton ranch, then it would mean that Kayce holds the answer to whether the Yellowstone ranch and the Duttons survive the onslaught by Caroline Warner.

What Will Beth Do With Jamie?

Beth recorded Jamie while he was trying to dispose of Garrett's body. That video would be sufficient to put Jamie in prison, which means Beth has enough leverage to manipulate him. Jamie is responsible for Beth's inability to have children, and Beth swore to make his lifemiserable for it.

Jamie had a baby with Christina by the time Beth recorded the evidence, which means Beth's revenge would affect his new family as well. Beth could use the evidence to force Jamie to step down from the governorship race or make him their puppet governor. Whatever she does with it, Jamie's rebellion against the Duttons seems finished.

What Will Rip Do About Teeter And Colby?

Rip enforces a no-relationships rule in the bunkhouse, which is why he sends away all the girls except Teeter when they cause division among the cowboys. Teeter was only allowed to stay because she wasn't in a relationship with anyone in the bunkhouse, but she then fell in love with Colby, which complicates Rip's position.

Before production started, the show confirmed that Jennifer Landon, who plays Teeter, would be a regular in season 5, which means the Teeter and Colby romance will continue. So, does Rip bend the rules and allow the first couple in the bunkhouse? Leaving is not an option for them either because they both have the brand.

Does John Dutton Choose Summer Or The Governor?

Despite Beth's protests, John Dutton was in love with Summer, and she helped bring about the romantic side of John Dutton that fans hadn't seen since the first season. Summer Higgins went to prison after Beth set her up, but John Dutton was so deep in love that he tried to use his influence with the judge to reduce her sentence.

However, after Summer went to prison, John Dutton moved on and shared a tent with governor Lynelle Perry in his summer camp. Summer's prison sentence was shortened to eight months which could mean that she returns in the course of the fifth season, creating a problem for John.

Will John Dutton's "Legacy" Project Work?

John Dutton decided to keep racehorses on the ranch to make it more iconic and give it protection against the developers and other enemies seeking to take the land from him. He made it clear to Travis that the project was urgent, saying he didn't have three years to create a legacy because of the strength of the enemies the ranch faced.

By the end of the fourth season, the ranch had already received its first champion racehorse, but that didn't seem to deter Market Equities. The fourth season didn't cover much of John Dutton's legacy plan, but if it is to work, then it has to be actualized in the fifth season before Caroline Warner takes everything from him.

Which Side Will Rainwater Choose?

Chief Thomas Rainwater planned to use the casinos to raise land rates and eventually force John Dutton to sell him the land, but he realized he couldn't raise the rates quickly enough. The property developers have also proved to be a bigger threat to the reservation than John Dutton, which is why Rainwater found himself without an ally.

With the developers desecrating grave sites belonging to his ancestors, Rainwater seemed more willing to work with John Dutton. Rainwater was still trying to make a deal with his casino developers before the bulldozers dug his ancestors' bones. If his hatred for John Dutton guides his judgment, then John Dutton will have a harder time fighting whichever enemy Rainwater decides to back.

What Does Caroline Warner Have Over Beth?

Caroline Warner warned Beth that she was "the big dog" and that she would open an SEC investigation into her for insider trading if she refused to work for Market Equities. Beth went ahead to make the ruthless CEO angry when she backstabbed Market Equities, leading to a confrontation in which Caroline promised to end Beth.

The Beth versus Caroline war is bound to dominate the fifth season, with Warner becoming a bigger threat to the Duttons than anyone they have faced before. The show didn't explain exactly how Caroline planned on bringing down Beth and what evidence she had that could lead to Beth being sent to jail.

Will Jimmy Come Back?

Jimmy is one of the most likable characters in Yellowstone, and his relationship with Mia made one of the best romantic moments of the show. His time in Texas turned him into a good cowboy, but then he decided to go back to Texas at the end of the fourth season, bringing more uncertainty around his future on the show.

His new relationship with Emily also resulted in a scuffle at the bunkhouse that proved Mia still loved him, but he chose Emily over Mia which almost eliminated everything that linked him to Yellowstone. Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy, is still expected to be a regular in the fifth season, which means the season may follow Jimmy and Mia in Texas as the fourth season did or bring up a twist that forces him to come back to Yellowstone.

Will Beth And Rip Keep Carter?

Carter is similar to Rip in many ways, which is why Rip agrees to keep the boy after Beth "adopts" him. Rip and Beth are not natural parents, though, because they are always occupied with the wild events that happen daily on the Dutton ranch.

Their marriage also has a lot of hurdles to deal with, including the issue of Beth's inability to have children, which she hasn't discussed with Rip yet. Beth and Rip's marriage isn't the most stable one either, which means a fallout between them could mean the end for Carter.

Will The Train Station Be Discovered?

The Train Station is the big secret of the ranch that Dutton's enemies, including Jamie, can use to bring him down. The station is no longer a secret, though, as some of the people that received the brand are not necessarily loyal to John Dutton. Rip and Walker never got along from the start, a situation that became worse when Walker and Beth grew close.

While it is not clear whether Walker is a threat to the ranch, there are many mysteries surrounding him enough to cause doubts about his mission on the ranch. There are other cowboys on Yellowstone as well who received the brand without being properly vetted, and they all put the ranch in danger.
