WARNING! This article contains spoilers for season 2 of Young Royals.Season 2 of Young Royals came out on November 1, and the relationship between the main couple has grown into something beautiful, though it took a while to get to where they are now.

When Simon and Wilhelm first met, they were immediately attracted to each other, but everything from an unsupportive family to a public outing stands in their way. Season 2 brings new drama as well as carries over much of last season's main conflict. With both parts of the series in mind, Wille and Simon's journey can be summed up in several of the show's best quotes.

"You Were Singing Straight From The Heart."

Wilhelm

At a welcome party for Wilhelm, Simon and the prince strike up a conversation. In awe, Wilhelm compliments Simon's singing voice. This is one of the first things Wille says to Simon, and it signifies the initial attraction they feel for one another. Wilhelm is enamored with Simon's talent and authenticity, while Simon is attracted to Wille's personality and interest in what he loves to do.

It can be easy to get caught up in their physical attraction, but their relationship begins and keeps resurfacing because of their love for each other's non-physical attributes among other things. With this strong foundation, Wille and Simon are considered one of the best LGBTQ+ couples on TV.

"I Just Didn't Want To Lose You. You're The Only One Here I Feel I Can Talk To."

Wilhelm

When August and his mates plan to blame Simon for the drugs he provided, Wilhelm convinces the group to frame Alexander instead. He relays this information to Simon and explains why he did what he did.

They say people do wild things for love, and this rings true for Wille and Simon. Wille becomes borderline unlikable when he frames Alexander, and Simon eventually accepts being Wille's secret even though he'd rather be out and proud with him. It shows how much they care about each other and that they're able to sacrifice their integrity to be together, though Wille's actions are certainly not to be supported.

"Isn't That The Thing About The Royal Family? That They Never Change?"

Sara

Upon noticing her brother's affection for the crown prince, Sara uses his own words against him to remind him of the possible consequences of his actions. This quote encompasses some of Simon's worst fears about being with Wilhelm.

They follow him throughout both seasons and exist largely due to the trust Wille frequently breaks in favor of his family and his royal commitments. Thankfully, Wilhelm's season 2 arc in Young Royals sees him growing into his own person, and he's able to prove Simon's fears wrong.

"Just Because You're Not Together Doesn't Mean That Everything's Lost."

Felice

Felice and Wille discuss the aftermath of their kiss which Wilhelm impulsively initiated after seeing Simon kiss someone else. All is forgiven, and Felice offers Wille these words of encouragement.

Wilhelm and Simon's relationship is very rocky, going from on to off again with the flick of a switch. Season 2 sees them not together for the longest time, and Wille starts to lose hope. With their intense chemistry, however, it's never a question from audiences about if they get back together, but when, and the hope that for once, it will last.

"We're In This Together."

Wilhelm

After the video of them is leaked, both Simon and Wilhelm's worlds turn upside down. Wille texts this line to Simon to assure him that he's not going anywhere.

Unfortunately, Wilhelm doesn't realize how difficult it will be to face the public, let alone his mother, and he breaks his word to Simon. While this quote doesn't describe much of their relationship throughout the show, it perfectly encapsulates the state of their relationship in the final episode where they've each grown enough individually to start growing together. It's a satisfying TV ending compared to where season 1 left these characters.

"It's Just Total Chaos."

Simon

Simon speaks with his friends about the leaked video and what's come from it. From the reporters to the whispers and the gossip, Simon has a difficult time coming to terms with what happened, calling it "total chaos."

For the majority of the series, Simon and Wilhelm's relationship is in total chaos. In season 1, Wille is constantly changing his mind about being with Simon because of his responsibilities to the throne. In Season 2, the roles are reversed, and Simon is caught between trying to move on and accepting his love for Wille. The leaked video is just the most prominent obstacle that changes both their lives and relationship overnight.

"She Discovers That She Wants To Change Her Life Because Of What She Learns Through Her Feelings For Siv."

Simon

For an oral book report, Simon and Wille read an autobiography from a woman who develops feelings for a female colleague. When the teacher asks about the book, both boys give their thoughts on it, but it's clear they're just speaking to each other in code, expressing understanding of the other's situation.

This quote beautifully describes Wilhelm's journey of self-discovery and acceptance throughout the series. That Simon can understand this, shows how well they've come to know and appreciate each other. As Wille falls for Simon, he realizes who he really is and discovers how badly his family wants to keep him from sharing his truth. This leads to his embrace of and advocacy for change as well as deeper feelings for Simon. This character growth is brilliant and makes for one of the best LGBTQ+ TV character arcs of 2022.

"All The People Are Fake... But I Like You. And That Is Not Fake."

Wilhelm

Wilhelm takes several drugs at a party with August and other firstborn royals. He ends up alone at a football field where he calls Simon and in a confused yet honest state, speaks this line to him.

Though Wilhelm is referring to the metal stand-in defenders in this quote, it can also be a metaphor for all the people they're constantly around, from the royal court to deceiving classmates, and even Wille himself who puts on an act when in public. Several of Wilhelm's relationships are built under this facade, but when it comes to Simon, he doesn't feel like he needs to hide. And that's a beautiful thing.

"If We Have To Keep It A Secret, So Be It. But No More Secrets Between Us."

Simon

In the season 2 finale, Simon decides he wants to be with Wilhelm regardless of the circumstances. He pulls the crown prince aside before his speech to let him know.

Simon and Wilhelm have always liked each other and wanted to be together, but every time they try to make it work, it all falls apart, not entirely because of external forces, but because there were always secrets between them. Simon realizes this was the main issue between them, and because his love for Wille is so strong, he makes this his only caveat to being a couple again, even if it means keeping it a secret from the rest of the world.

"I Love You."

Simon & Wilhelm

Wilhelm says these powerful words first, right before he leaves for holiday in the season 1 finale. It takes a while, but Simon finally reciprocates this in the season 2 finale after months of denying his feelings.

It's just three words, and they're the most generic and cliché words in the romance genre, but their utilization in Young Royals is nearly perfect. It shows how much Wille and Simon care for one another and gives the show a beautiful full-circle moment. Once they've both made their feelings clear, Wille becomes so happy and secure, that through their love, he is finally able to come clean about his role in the leaked video and his care for Simon.
