Alongside several other fan-favorite titles like Elden Ring and Stray, God of War Ragnarök has been nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards. This is no surprise to anyone as every fan believed before 2022 began that it would ultimately be either Elden Ring or GoW Ragnarök that took home the award as the best game.

GoW Ragnarök sees Kratos having companions fighting by his side. Primarily this rotates between Atreus and Freya. Fans are the most familiar with Atreus as their companion due to God of War (2018) but Ragnarök gave him a much bigger story than he previously had and players can play as Atreus as a solo character at many points in the story.

Deceptive Eagle Eye - 1000 XP To Unlock

Atreus has many fantastic skills that can slow down time. Deceptive Eagle Eye is one of those skills as when Atreus dodges an attack at the last second and the player presses 'L2' time will momentarily slow done.

They can then rush in with whatever combo they wish to deal some serious punishment. This is a perfect skill for players who enjoy maneuvering around enemies by dodging their attacks consistently as it allows them to now deal damage at a more rapid rate.

Bludgeoning Strikes - 500 XP To Unlock

Bludgeoning Strikes is a perfect beat-down skill that can overwhelm any enemy that Atreus is up against. The player holds 'R1' to trip the enemy and Atreus immediately strikes them. If the player continues to hold 'R1,' Atreus will extend his combo and deal heavy Stun.

This is an excellent assault for Atreus to use against practically any enemy he'll face. Even though he doesn't always have the action hack-and-slash hero, Kratos by his side, Atreus is a perfect independent fighter and can overwhelm any foe with practical ease with the right skills.

Hex Reignition - 2000 XP To Unlock

Hex Reignition causes an additional explosion from the enemies that explode with elemental damage as long as Atreus fired them with a Hexed arrow. This is a great strategy that Atreus can use on his own and players should always use Hex arrows on enemies that they know will explode when they die.

This can also be used with Kratos by using either his Burn or his Frost elemental effects from some of his best weapons in GoW Ragnarök, the Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos, as a way to deal more overall damage and explosions.

Cunning Eagle Eye - 1000 XP To Unlock

After unlocking this skill players should begin to focus on mixing it with their usual strategy of parrying blows. Immediately after parrying click 'L2' to slow down time.

This gives Atreus, one of the best-portrayed gods in GoW Ragnarök, open access to deal plenty of new damage by capitalizing upon them already being open to an attack from the successful parry. This, alongside the other Eagle Eye skills, should be obtained as quickly as the player can get them because of their incredible abilities that can make Atreus an incredible force in battle.

Rushing Ascent - 500 XP To Unlock

The Rushing Ascent skill is nothing overly complex; however, it is a vital piece to open enemies up to other combos and skills. When sprinting forward, press 'R2' to deal a heavy attack that will launch most enemies hit into the air.

Atreus then can follow up with any attack of the player's choosing to take down the enemies that much faster. Launching enemies is a fantastic tactic as they can't fight back when airborne and are susceptible to a barrage of different attacks.

Warrior's Reversal - 1500 XP To Unlock

Warrior's Reversal is an alternate method that players can perform if they don't want to slow down time with Cunning Eagle Eye. With this technique, they will want to press 'R2' after a successful parry, and they will immediately launch enemies into the air.

Cunning Eagle Eye is better for dealing a ton of damage as possible to an opponent and while the same could be said for Warrior's Reversal, it's better to use Warrior's Reversal as a method to knock enemies off of cliffs.

Soaring Eagle Eye - 1000 XP To Unlock

Soaring Eagle Eye is the perfect skill to use when Atreus uses another skill that launches an enemy up into the air. These skills aren't really meant as standalone skills and should definitely be used alongside many others.

Once an enemy is launched into the air, press 'L2' and immediately begin attacking them as time is slowed down. This skill won't do as much good for close-up attacks, and the player should focus on firing arrows instead.

Sonic Resonance - 2000 XP To Unlock

Sonic Resonance allows Atreus to use the maximum effects of his Sonic arrows. This is a passive skill that doesn't require any specific button to be clicked. Every Sonic explosion that's caused by Atreus's Sonic arrows immediately applies Sonic to any nearby enemies.

This is perfect for building up Stun and dealing an explosion of damage after enough is built up. This skill will be one that players likely unlock later in the game, but it's good to get it as soon as possible for players who rely on Sonic arrows.

Dexterous Shot - 1000 XP To Unlock

GoW Ragnarök was one of the most looked-forward-to games in the last half of 2022, and many players didn't expect the opportunity to play as Atreus. thankfully, Dexterous Shot is another skill that makes playing A Atreus as a solo character a lot of fun and is another fantastic passive skill that increases the amount of damage that Atreus deals with the more headshots they make consecutively.

For players who have mastered their marksmanship with Atreus and prefer to hang back from afar to fight, this is a vital skill that they'll want to get as soon as possible. It can take down an enemy in a matter of seconds if they're quick and precise enough.

Dive Into Battle - 500 XP To Unlock

Dive into Battle is one of the most useful skills players can get their hands on, and there's absolutely no reason not to use it. While some players may want to stay back and fire their arrows all day as Atreus, they should know that he's just as good, if not better, at close combat.

Dive into Battle allows the player to grapple toward their opponent when they press '△' and deliver a powerful attack into them that deals status damage of whatever Runic Arrow they have equipped. This is the perfect skill to use when Atreus is far away from opponents and allows the player to switch from long-distance fighting to close combat in a snap.
