God of War Ragnarök’s quality in storytelling has to do with the characters featured, who are all three-dimensional personalities.
A great way to understand the heroes and villains is through the zodiac sign system, which distributes traits and attributes of people across the year. Whether it’s a fierce person like Kratos or someone more inclined toward empathy such as Atreus, fans can find themselves in each character in God of War Ragnarök, so it’s worth taking a deeper look.
12 Aries: Kratos
Aries personalities are fierce, relentless, and passionate people who can rarely be deterred from their goals. Kratos is as resilient as they come, with his goal in Ragnarök to protect Atreus fueled by his need to keep his son safe while learning to be compassionate to the people around him.
People born under the Aries sign can be a bit too emotional due to their fiery personalities, which was seen when Kratos couldn’t keep himself from slaying Heimdall when Atreus was under threat. However, he also lived up to the determination of Aries by vowing to protect the realms after Atreus left.
11 Taurus: Atreus
Tauruses are hardworking, loyal, and reliable people to have around, who will do their best to keep everyone happy. This describes Atreus’ role well, as his goal was to prevent Ragnarök in the hopes that the inhabitants of the Nine Realms might learn to coexist.
Taurus personalities can be stubborn to a fault, though, which Atreus portrayed when he ran away from Kratos to prove he could stop Ragnarök. Atreus showed the Taurus loyalty within him when he left to find other Jotuns, as he wanted to do right by the kind he’s descended from.
10 Gemini: Odin
As expected, Odin turned out to be the most difficult fight against a god in God of War Ragnarök, which tied into Geminis’ inherently talented nature. People of this sign are good at juggling responsibilities, they are quick and clever, and have contrasting emotional attitudes based on how they’re feeling.
Odin’s dual side was seen when he cleverly posed as Tyr to manipulate Kratos’ party to trust him while maintaining his normal visage as well. Geminis are among the most curious people out there, and all of Odin’s actions were a result of his curiosity about his fate.
9 Cancer: Freya
Cancers are nurturing, and loving, yet hyperemotional when things don’t go their way or if they’ve been wronged. Freya’s defining attribute was her capacity for love, to the point where she lost her senses out of retribution against Kratos even though the latter had saved her life from Baldur.
Cancer personalities are also highly intuitive, capable of knowing when someone is troubled. Freya had this ability as well, which enabled her to understand where Kratos was coming from and eventually open herself up to forgive him before accompanying him in the many side quests in God of War Ragnarok.
8 Leo: Brok & Sindri
Leo personalities are confident, generous, and fiercely protective of the ones around them. Brok and Sindri displayed these characters to a tee, having aided the heroes by providing them with weapons while carrying an outspoken but well-meaning attitude.
The fierce aspect of Leos’ love came around when Sindri abandoned Kratos and the rest after Brok’s death, as he felt so loyal to his brother’s memory that he blamed the protagonists for falling prey to Odin’s manipulations.
7 Virgo: Angrboda
Virgos are kind, humble, and sympathetic personalities who are the best people to have around during difficult times. Angrboda’s role was to provide guidance to Atreus in his journey, during which she remained a form friend and a potential love interest.
Angrboda’s kindness was her defining feature, with the character never passing any judgment on Atreus. Virgos are also notable for being sensible, which Angrboda displayed when she advised Kratos and Atreus to interpret the prophecy in a positive way.

Libras are known for their charm, need for balance, and ability to compromise. Sif had her work cut out for her as Thor’s wife, but she was the one who kept asking him to stand up for himself against Odin, showing the balanced mindset of a Libra.
Furthermore, Sif generally lived a life of compromise since things were hardly according to her liking, yet she stayed in the marriage with Thor. Sif once more chose to go the balanced route when she saw that defecting away from Odin would potentially bring peace to the Nine Realms.

Thor proved to be just as difficult a boss fight as expected in God of War Ragnarök, although he showed quite a lot of maturity by letting go of his need to please Odin. Scorpios are brave, and loyal, but also resentful toward those who have wronged them, which is basically how Thor’s relationship was with Odin.
Thor remained loyal to his father for as long as he could, resenting Odin for never treating him with respect. He showed the courage that Scorpios have by ultimately defying Odin’s order – it led to his demise, but Thor at least stuck to his guns.
4 Sagittarius: Heimdall

Sagittarius personalities are known for their honesty, intellectualism, and their ability to control conversations. While Heimdall became one of the brutal kills in the God of War series for his despicable nature, he did have the Sagittarians’ characteristics as well.
Heimdall was very much blunt about his dislike for Kratos and Atreus, also maintaining control over Atreus and Thrúd by outwitting them constantly. It was difficult to win any arguments with Heimdall, to the point where Kratos killed him out of anger – Sagittarians can appreciate this dominance when it comes to arguments.
3 Capricorn: Mimir
Capricorns are practical, smart, and make great friends and collaborators. Mimir proved himself to be all these things by accompanying Kratos without fail across the realms. He’s known as the smartest man in the Norse world, which places him along the lines of a Capricorn.
People of this zodiac can separate their emotions from their decision-making, with Mimir displaying this when he advised Kratos to see things from Atreus’ perspective at a time when the protagonist wasn’t doing so. Mimir’s friendship has been a constant factor, bringing more connections between him and Capricorn personalities.
2 Aquarius: Thrúd
Aquarius personalities are devoted to their family and friends and are independent spirits who don’t like being told what to do. Thrúd did much of the same when she was forced to have Heimdall around, despising the latter for constantly antagonizing herself and Atreus.
Aquarians aren’t afraid to give their loved ones a reality check due to their free-thinking mindsets, with Thrúd shown lecturing her father Thor for not behaving responsibly. Her devotion to Thor showed up later when she started wielding his hammer as a tribute to him after Thor’s demise.

Pisces personalities are the most emotionally sensitive, gracious, and creative people in general. Faye’s appearances in flashbacks showed that she was this way, providing Kratos with the comfort and attention he needed to overcome his deep feelings of guilt.
The Pisces-level of creativity and imagination was apparent when it was revealed that Faye had destroyed the mural of Kratos’ fate so that he could determine his own future. Pisces personalities are usually the people that others gravitate toward, which is how Atreus and Kratos saw her as well.
